İskenderunspor 1967 is a Turkish football club from İskenderun , which was dissolved in 2006 and rebuilt in 2009. Until it was dissolved in 2006, the association was called İskenderunspor.
history
The club was founded in 1967 by the union of the second division clubs Gençlerbirliği, Çayspor and Yolspor. The club colors were orange-blue. The club managed to leave local rival İskenderun Demir Çelikspor in the shadows for many years.
The club's youth work has given Turkish football important names such as Samet Aybaba , Durmuş Çolak , Soner Tolungüç and İsmail Köybaşı . After the 1971/72 season, the club rose to the second Turkish league for the first time in club history and was represented there until the 1977/78 season. In 1978 the team was relegated to the third division for match- fixing. When the club was relegated to the amateur league after forced relegation , it was re-accepted into the second Turkish league in 1980 and was able to secure relegation there until the 1989/90 season. After relegation in 1990, the team managed to climb back into the second division after just one season.
In 1993 the club was relegated back to the third division and could not achieve any further successes until the 1995/96 season. 1996 succeeded a renewed promotion to the second division. The success was short-lived, which means that the team was relegated to the third division again in the year of promotion. From 1997 to 2001, the club played in the third division and eventually rose again to the amateur league, where it was represented until 2006 and then dissolved.
The club was well on the way to promotion to the top Turkish league, but the club was financially weakened due to the second Gulf War , which meant that a promotion to the top league was never achieved.
The club's most successful season was the 1983/84 season. The team finished the season in second place behind the promoted Malatyaspor .
