The Spor Toto Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 2008/09 was the eighth season of the fourth-highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It started on September 4, 2008 with the first match day and ended on May 31, 2009 with the play-of-finals.
Competition mode
With the 2008/09 season, the fourth highest division was fundamentally reformed. Instead of the teams in the first three places in the table being promoted directly to the TFF 2. Lig as before in a four-track league , the league was played in three stages this season. In the 1st stage, the league was played in a qualifying round (Turkish Kademe Grupları ) in five groups with eleven or ten teams each with home and away games. After the end of the 1st stage, the first two teams from all groups were included in a joint group, the promotion round (Turkish Yükselme Grubu ), and played here for promotion to the third highest division. The remaining teams in the five groups of the qualifying round played in an unchanged group constellation now in a relegation round (Turkish Düşme Grupları ) for relegation to the regional amateur leagues. Both the promotion round and the relegation round represented the 2nd stage and were played with a round trip. The teams in the first two places in the promotion round rose directly to the TFF 2. Lig and the teams in the last two places in the table of all groups in the relegation round relegated to the regional amateur leagues. While the points from the qualifying round were not taken into the promotion round, they were counted unchanged in the relegation round. In order to increase the attractiveness of the league and to prevent many teams from securing relegation very early on and then playing aimlessly in front of empty ranks, it was decided to play a third stage in the form of a play-off in addition to the existing constellation. In these play-offs, the third and last promoted team should be determined. The teams ranked five to seven the promotion round and the winners of descent groups should in the knockout system play out the last climber. The play-offs were played at the end of the group stage in a city that was neutral for all eight teams.
Composition of participants
Beginning of the season were the remaining from the previous season 34 teams, the ten losers from the TFF 2. Lig Inegölspor , Fatih Karagümrük SK , Izmirspor , Usakspor , Küçükköyspor , Tepecik Belediyespor , ARAKLISPOR , Erzincanspor , Kahramanmarasspor , Hatayspor the six newcomers Menemen Belediyespor , Bandirmaspor , Pursaklarspor , Keçiören Belediyespor , Düzcespor , Bağlar Vuralspor have been added. The newcomers had been accepted as champions from the then regional amateur leagues and were allowed to take part in the TFF 3rd Lig.
Season course
League phase
Göztepe Izmir , Tepecik Belediyespor , Tavşanlı Belediye TKİ Linyitspor and Kahramanmaraşspor finished the season in the first four places of the promotion round and thus rose directly to the TFF 2nd Lig .
Relegated were end of the season Orhangazi Gençlerbirliği , Fatih Karagümrük SK ( group 1 of the Abstiegsrunde ) Aydınspor , Mustafakemalpaşa Spor ( the relegation round Group 2 ), Aksarayspor , Usakspor ( the relegation round Group 3 ), Erzincanspor , DÇ Divriğispor ( group 4 of the relegation round ) and Bağlar Vuralspor , Kilis Belediyespor ( Group 5 of the relegation round ).
Playoff phase
By reaching 1st place in the relegation rounds, Yalovaspor ( Group 1 ), Balıkesirspor ( Group 2 ), İnegölspor ( Group 3 ), Kastamonuspor ( Group 4 ) and Batman Belediyespor ( Group 4 ) and Ankara as 5th to 7th placed Demirspor , Hatayspor and Pursaklarspor for participating in the playoffs. In the playoff phase, these eight teams were to determine the last two promoted teams in two separate playoff tracks, each with two stages. The games on one track were played as neutral locations for all teams in Zonguldak and those on the other track in Ankara . Ankara Demirspor played against Hatayspor and Yalovaspor played against Kastamonuspor by lottery in the semi-finals of the 1st playoff branch. In the semi-finals of the second playoff branch Balıkesirspor met Pursaklarspor and Batman Belediyespor on İnegölspor.
All playoff games were played between May 29 and May 31, 2009 in the Karaelmas Kemal Köksal Stadium (Zonguldak) or in the 12 Haziran Stadı (Amasya). In the first play-off branch Hatayspor prevailed on penalties against Ankara Demirspor, while in the other semifinal encounter Yalovaspor reached the play-off final with a 2-1 win over Kastamonuspor. In the second playoff branch reached in the semifinals Pursaklarspor with a 2-1 win against Balıkesirspor the final, while İnegölspor prevailed with a 2-1 win against Batman Belediyespor.
In the first final, Yalovaspor prevailed with a 2-1 win against Hatayspor and rose to the TFF 2. Lig . The 2nd final decided Pursaklarspor 0: 1 over Inegölspor for themselves and rose to the 2nd Lig.
Special occurrences
- After the Turkish giants Göztepe Izmir in the Fourth League Season 2006/07 was highly indebted relegated to the amateur league, the patron bought Imam Altinbas in summer 2008, the fourth division Aliağa Belediyespor on and changed the club name in Göztepe A.Ş (in the media from now on as Göztepe Izmir out ) and took over the club logo and the club name from Göztepe Izmir . The original Göztepe then handed over its competition rights to Aliağa Belediyespor . In this way, the Göztepe association was financially restructured.
- The Nilüfer Belediyespor association of the Bursa Province changed its name to Bursa Nilüferspor before the start of the season . In addition, the founding year was changed to 2008, although the founding year of Nilüfer Belediyespor was 1999.
- The Turkish Football Association initiated investigative proceedings against Ceyhanspor and his club board on suspicion of match manipulation. The club was accused of having made a match agreement in the pre-season matches on May 4, 2008 against Mersin BB FK . As a result, the association had Ceyhanspor forcibly relegated in the summer of 2009 and imposed several penalties against those responsible for the club.
