The Spor Toto Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi 2007/08 was the seventh season of the fourth-highest Turkish division in professional men's football. It began on September 13, 2007 with the 1st day of play and ended on May 4, 2008 with the 30th and final day of the game.

Competition mode

In the 2007/08 season which was TFF 3. Lig as in the previous season played as a four-track league. The total team number rose from 64 to 65, as DÇ Divriğispor remained despite relegation place in the league. These 65 teams played in four groups with 16 and 17 teams respectively for promotion to the 2nd league and against relegation to the amateur league.

Since the TFF 3rd Lig was to be reformed from the ground up for the coming fourth division season , the 2006/07 season , and the total number of teams was to be reduced to 50 teams, preliminary work was already carried out in the 2007/08 season. The number of newcomers was increased from ten to 14 and the number of relegators from eight to 16. At the end of the season, 34 teams remained in the TFF 3rd Lig. With the addition of the eight relegated teams from the TFF 2nd Lig and the eight promoted teams from the Regional Amateur League, the total number of teams should be 50.

All first to third place winners went straight to the second league , while the teams in the last four places in the table were relegated to the regional amateur league. In addition to the twelve direct promoters, two other teams rose. These indirect promoters were determined in a playoff among the four fourth and fifth placed.

Composition of participants

Beginning of the season the ten losers from were the remaining from the previous season 47 teams 2. Lig Yalovaspor , Oyak Renault SK , Nazilli Belediyespor , Muglaspor , Keciörengücü , Darıca Gençlerbirliği , Tokatspor , Ünyespor , Siirtspor , Cizrespor the eight newcomers Malatya Belediyespor , Belediye Bingölspor , Bafra Belediyespor , Konya Şekerspor , Tavşanlı Belediye TKİ Linyitspor , Torbalıspor , Korfez Belediyespor , Lüleburgazspor have been added. The newcomers had been accepted as champions from the then regional amateur leagues and were allowed to take part in the TFF 3rd Lig.

Season course

League phase

Belediye Vanspor ( Group 1 ), Tokatspor ( Group 2 ), Denizli Belediyespor ( Group 3 ), Beykozspor ( Group 4 ) achieved the championship of the 3rd Lig in their groups and thus the direct promotion to the 2nd Lig . In addition, Malatya Belediyespor , Karsspor ( Group 1 ), Ofspor , Çorumspor ( Group 2 ), Akhisar Belediyespor , Konya Şekerspor ( Group 3 ) and Beylerbeyi SK , Körfez Belediyespor ( Group 4 ) came second and third .

Relegated were end of the season Nusaybin Demirspor , Antalyaspor , Cizrespor , Mezitlispor ( Group 1 ), Bağlum Belediyespor , İlkadım Belediyespor , Artvin Hopaspor , ( Group 2 ), Kütahyaspor , Muglaspor , Yeni Konya Ereglispor , Yeni Burdur Gençlikspor ( Group 3 ) and Zonguldakspor , Bursa Merinosspor , Küçükçekmecespor , Bilecikspor ( Group 4 ).

In addition to these regular relegations, Şırnakspor had to be relegated for match-fixing. The capital club Tarım Kredispor withdrew from the game at the end of the season.

Playoff phase

By reaching 4th or 5th place in the table, Şırnakspor , Belediye Bingölspor ( group 1 ), Kastamonuspor , Keçiörengücü ( group 2 ), Altınordu Izmir , Balıkesirspor ( group 3 ), Yıldırım Bosnaspor and Darıca Gençlerbirliği ( group 4 ) qualified for the Participation in the playoffs. In the playoff phase, these eight teams were to determine the last two promoted teams in two separate playoff tracks, each with two stages, with the playoffs taking place in Trabzon as a neutral location for all teams . By lottery procedure met in the semi-finals of the 1st playoff branch Altınordu on Belediye Bingölspor and Keçiörengücü on Balıkesirspor. In the semi-finals of the second playoff branch Yıldırım Bosnaspor met Şırnakspor and Darıca Gençlerbirliği on Kastamonuspor.

All playoff games were played between May 15 and May 18, 2008 at Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium . In the first playoff branch Altınordu prevailed 1-0 against Belediye Bingölspor in the semifinals, while Keçiörengücü reached the playofinals with a 4-2 win on penalties over Balıkesirspor in the other semifinals. In the second playoff branch reached in the semifinals Yıldırım Bosnaspor with a 2-0 win against Şırnakspor the final, while Darıca Gençlerbirliği prevailed with a 1-0 win against Kastamonuspor.

In the 1st final Altınordu prevailed with a 1-0 win against Keçiörengücü and rose to the TFF 2nd Lig . The 2nd final decided Darıca Gençlerbirliği 4: 3 over Yıldırım Bosnaspor for himself and rose to the 2nd Lig.

Special occurrences

  • Mersin BB FK changed its name to Mezitlispor before the start of the season .
  • The Turkish Football Association forced Şırnakspor to relegate after it was found that both teams had manipulated the match in the Nusaybin Demirspor -Şırnakspor game on May 4, 2008. In addition, Şırnakspor was deducted six points for the coming week.
  • On March 25, 2008, two armed men stormed the Bafra Belediyespor clubhouse and shot around. They killed the coach Sedat Gezer and his goalkeeping coach İsmail Kurt , while the club president Ergin Özarslan survived seriously injured. After these developments, all players left the club, which is why the game was withdrawn. The Turkish Football Association kept the club in the league but assessed all remaining players with a 3-0 defeat.
