TFF 3rd Lig 2015/16
TFF 2nd Lig 2016/17

The Spor Toto 3rd Lig 2016/17 was the 16th season of the fourth highest Turkish division in men's football. It started on September 3, 2016 with the first match day and ended on May 27, 2017 with the play-off games between the second to fifth placed in all three groups.

Competition mode

Unlike in the previous season , the total number of teams was reduced from 57 teams to 55 teams. Actually, the total number of teams should be reduced to 54 teams, but this project could not be implemented because Cizrespor was kept in the league despite relegation, taking into account special events. Thus these 55 teams played in two groups with 18 teams each and in a group with 19 teams for promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig and against relegation to the regional amateur league. The division of the league was not carried out regionally. In the first stage, the normal league phase, all first-placed teams rose directly to the TFF 2nd Lig, while the three last-placed teams in the groups with 18 teams and the four last-placed teams in the group with 19 teams relegated to the Boelgesel Amatoer Ligi . The division of the teams into the respective groups was determined by a draw on June 30, 2016 in the central training facilities of the Turkish Football Association in Istanbul's Beykoz district . The draw for the game schedule was drawn on July 26, 2016 at the same point. Furthermore, in the first stage, the normal league phase, it was also determined which teams had qualified for the second stage, for the playoff phase. The second to fifth placed in all groups qualified for the playoffs.

In the playoff phase, the last three promoted players were determined by the knockout system . A separate playoff round was carried out for each group. In each of these playoffs a promoted player was played. The semi-finals were decided with a round trip and thus formed a rule change from last season, in which the semi-finals were decided with a match in a city that was neutral for all participating teams. The play-off finals, however, were with last year a game and took place in cities that were neutral for all participating teams.

Attendees

Beginning of the season are on the previous season remaining 38 teams, the six relegated from the Bayrampaşaspor , Pazarspor , Orduspor , Kartalspor , Ankara Demirspor , Tarsus İdman Yurdu and the nine climbers Afjet Afyonspor , Kütahyaspor , Elaziz Belediyespor , Kocaelispor , Türk Metal Kirikkalespor , Erbaaspor , Halide Edip Adıvar SK , Muğlaspor , 12 Bingölspor from the Bölgesel Amatoer Lig joined them. The total number of teams should be reduced with this season from 57 with 19 teams each in three groups to a total of 54 with 18 teams each in three groups. But since with Cizrespor a relegated from the previous season was kept in the league due to extraordinary circumstances, the total number of teams was reduced to 55 teams. H. two groups with 18 teams each and one group with 19 teams, reduced.

Season course

League phase

Sancaktepe Belediyespor from the 1st group took over the championship on the 7th matchday from Altay İzmir and ended the season on the 36th matchday, the penultimate matchday of the group, secured the championship and thus direct promotion to the TFF 2. Lig the club participated in the third highest Turkish league for the first time in its nine-year history.

Bodrum Belediyesi Bodrumspor from the 2nd group played the whole season with Silivrispor and Düzcespor for the championship lead. After the autumn championship had been awarded to Silivrispor, the team took over the championship lead from the new leaders Düzcespor on matchday 22 and secured the championship and thus direct promotion to the TFF 2nd Lig on matchday 32 with a 2-0 home win over Derincespor With that, the club returned to the third Turkish league after 22 years of abstinence. In Group 3, Afjet Afyonspor took the lead on matchday 10, only secured the autumn championship and with a 4-1 home win on matchday 32 against Ankara Demirspor prematurely the championship. So the club returned to the 2nd Lig after five years.

From the first group, the two Istanbul clubs Kartalspor , Beylerbeyi SK , as well as Kütahyaspor and Manavgatspor missed the league and were relegated to amateur football. While the last two looked back on a short participation in the 3rd league, two long-time members of Turkish professional football said goodbye with the traditional clubs Kartalspor and Beylerbeyi.

In Group 2, the clubs Dersimspor , Derincespor and Türk Metal Kırıkkalespor were relegated .

From the third group, the financially badly ailing North Anatolian club Orduspor , which started the season with a 9-point deduction, missed relegation weeks before the end of the season. On the 31st matchday, Denizli Büyükşehir Belediyespor and on the last matchday with the Istanbul club Maltepespor were the last relegated in Group 3.

With 20 league goals İlyas Kubilay Yavuz from Tarsus İdman Yurdu won the top scorer's crown in the TFF 3rd Lig.

Playoff phase

On reaching the table locations two to five is eligible Altay Izmir , Ankara Demirspor , Kocaelispor , Çorum Belediyespor ( Group 1 ), Erbaaspor , Silivrispor , Manisa Büyükşehir Belediyespor , Çatalcaspor ( Group 2 ) and Sakaryaspor , darıca gençlerbirliği , Diyarbekirspor , Bayrampaşaspor ( Group 3 ) for participation in the playoffs.

Since the game Dersimspor - Çatalcaspor , which was decisive for the playoff participation, did not take place on the last day of the match , the fourth place in Group 2 could not be determined. So the playoff group of this group was postponed until further notice, until a result is announced regarding the Dersimspor-Çatalcaspor. The match between Dersimspor and Çatalcaspor was rescheduled for May 13, 2017 and ended with a 3-1 away win by Çatalcaspor. As a result, this club qualified for the group 2 playoffs. The playoff matches were canceled on May 18 and 22, 2017.

The play-offs ended Altay İzmir ( Group 1 ), Silivrispor ( Group 2 ) and Sakaryaspor ( Group 3 ) as winners and rose to the 2nd Lig.

    List of goalscorers

The Turkish Football Association (TFF) keeps separate goalscorer lists for all three groups of the TFF 3rd Lig, but determines the top scorer from a single combined goalscorer list. Only the goals in regular league operations are counted in the list. Goals reported in the playoff phase will not be included in the list of goalscorers by the football association.
