Derince is a Turkish port and district town and a district in the greater Istanbul area. The city is located in the province of Kocaeli , about 80 kilometers east of the Bosphorus on the northeast coast of the Marmara Sea near the city of Izmit .

The district is a district of the metropolitan commune ( Büyükşehir belediyesi ) Kocaeli. It borders on Korfez to the west, İzmit and Kandıra to the east, Istanbul province to the north and the Gulf of İzmit to the south.
