Başiskele is a district of the Turkish province of Kocaeli and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi (large city commune ) Kocaeli.

The district is located in the south of the province. It borders in the north on İzmit , in the east on Kartepe , in the south on the provinces Sakarya and Bursa , in the west on Gölcük and in the north-west on the Marmara Sea with the Gulf of İzmit . The E-881 , which runs from Bursa to İzmit, runs along the banks of the gulf . In the south of the district is the Naldöken Dağı mountain range , part of the Samanlı Dağları Mountains . In the center is the Kirazdere Barajı reservoir (also Yuvacık Barajı ).
