etymology

The name Erbaa is of Arabic origin, arbaʿa means "four". The original full name was Nevahi-i Erbaa , "the four Nahiyes ". This name originated in 1848 when Herek, Karayaka, Sonisa (Reşadiye-Uluköy) and Taşabad (Taşova) were united to form a common judicial district (Kaza).

Geography and climate

Erbaa is located about 40 km west of Niksar in a 32 km long and 10 km wide fertile valley through which the Kelkit Çayı flows. The area is rich in watercourses. The smaller rivers and streams Tozanlı, Karakuş, İmbat, Keçeci and Tanoba mostly flow into the Kelkit. In the north rise the Canik Dağları with the Karınca Dağı and in the south lie the mountains Sakarat (1956 m) and Boğalı.

The climate is mild. The winters are rainy and moderately cold. The average temperature in winter is 3 to 5 ° C. In midsummer the temperatures climb to 36 to 39 ° C. The rainiest month is March with an average of 580 mm of precipitation. Lebanon cedars , among others, grow in the mountain forests .

district

The district of Erbaa is the northernmost district of the province and borders in the southwest with the district Turhal , in the south with the central district ( Merkez ) Tokat and in the southwest with the district Niksar . The province of Amasya in the west, the province of Ordu in the northeast and the province of Samsun in the north form an external border, while the Hasan-Uğurlu reservoir is a natural border with the Ayvacik district in this province.
