The Hasan Uğurlu Dam is a dam on the Yeşilırmak in Turkey , Samsun Province .
Originally it was supposed to be called Ayvacik Dam . However, it was renamed after Hasan Uğurlu, an engineer who died in an accident along with his wife while working on the dam. The Suat-Uğurlu Dam , 24 km below, was named after his wife Suat Uğurlu . The Hasan Uğurlu Dam is used to generate energy .
The dam made of loose rock material with a dam volume of 9.6 million m³ was completed in 1979 on behalf of the state water authority DSİ . Today he is employed by the state energy company Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (EÜAŞ) operated. It is 23 km south of Çarşamba and 25 km southeast of Samsun .
The storage space of the reservoir is 1074 million m³. Of this, 660 million m³ are usable storage space. The water surface normally has an extension of 22.7 km². The reservoir extends to the neighboring provinces of Ordu , Tokat and Amasya .
The hydropower plant , a cavern power house in the rock underground, has four vertical Francis turbines with a capacity of 4 × 125 MW . The annual energy production is 1217 GWh.
