The Suat-Uğurlu Dam ( Turkish Suat Uğurlu Barajı ) is located 13 km south of Çarşamba in the northern Turkish province of Samsun on the lower reaches of the Yeşilırmak .
The Suat-Uğurlu Dam was built in 1975–1981 by the state water authority DSİ as a rubble dam . Today's operator is the state energy company Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (EÜAŞ). The dam is used for energy generation and irrigation . The dam is 38 m high and has a volume of 2.338 million m³. The associated reservoir, which is around 22 km long, has a water surface of 9.644 km² and a storage volume of 181.31 million m³. It extends to the Hasan-Uğurlu dam upstream . The district town of Ayvacık is located on the western shore of the lake . The Kumköy barrage is located 2.5 km downstream . The Suat-Uğurlu Dam is designed to irrigate an area of 82,707 hectares. The Suat-Uğurlu Dam hydropower plant has two Kaplan turbines , each with a capacity of 23 megawatts . The average annual energy production is 273 GWh.
