Georges Abadie

Georges Abadie (* 21st November 1924 in Tarbes , Hautes-Pyrenees department ; † 23. October 2017 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French lawyer and civil servant, among others between 1992 and 2001. Member of the Constitutional Court ( Court constitutionnel ) was .

Life

Degree, member of the Resistance and administrative officer

Abadie graduated after school to study at the prestigious Paris Institute of Political Studies Sciences Po ( Sciences Po ) and was during the Second World War, a member of the resistance movement Resistance , for which he in fighting units FFC ( Forces Françaises combat tantes ) to took part in the liberation of France and was awarded the Croix de guerre 1939–1945 . He completed further studies in literary studies and law with a licentiate each .

Abadie, who was also a graduate of the Center for Contemporary African and Asian Studies CHEAM (Center des hautes études sur l'Afrique et l'Asie modern) , then entered the state administration and was initially head of cabinet of the Prefects of the Gironde department , des Vienne and Haute-Saône . He was then from June 1954 to February 1955 head of cabinet of Jean Raffarin , a state secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, and later between June 1957 and May 1958 head of cabinet of the state secretary in the budget ministry, Jean-Raymond Guyon .

In the period that followed, he worked several times as sub-prefect (sous-préfet) of the Arrondissement Nontron , Arrondissement Vervins , Arrondissement Djidjelli in Algeria , Arrondissement Bastia and the Arrondissement Toulon and as Secretary General for Economy of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Auvergne region . After he was Director of Public Security, he acted as Payeur General and Treasurer (Trésorier Payeur Général) of the Haute-Loire and Orne departments .

Prefect and member of the Court constitutionnel

Finally, Abadie became Prefect (Préfet) of the Savoie Department in 1976 and then of the Manche Department between 1977 and May 17, 1982 , before becoming Prefect of the Auvergne Region (préfet de région) from May 17, 1982 to March 27, 1985 and thereafter from March 27, 1985 to August 11, 1986 Prefect of the Aquitaine Region . He then worked as an extraordinary member of the Council of State ( Conseil d'État ) , which is not only the highest administrative court , but also the government's advisory body on legal issues. He was also the Special Representative (Chargé de Mission) to the Minister Associate for the Budget.

On February 25, 1992 Abadie was nominated by President François Mitterrand for a nine-year term as a member of the Constitutional Court, the Court constitutionnel . He held this position from March 5, 1992 to March 5, 2001.

For his many years of service, he was appointed Honorary Council of State (Conseiller d'Etat honoraire) and Honorary Regional Prefect (préfet de région honoraire) as well as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor .
