Head of Cabinet

With Chief of Cabinet (also Head of Cabinet , Chief of Cabinet ') is called a policy-maker in general, the chief advisor. The name follows a French political tradition and is particularly common in France , Canada , Belgium , Austria and the European Union . The head of the UN Secretariat also holds this title.

The head of cabinet is the first person to consult a political leader on issues of analysis and strategy ( political analyst ). Its advisory function can also include regular (preliminary) contact with external parties, in particular other political actors ( government cooperation , coordination in public administration, etc.), interest groups ( lobbying ) or journalists ( press work ). His “boss” also often prepares and accompanies personnel policy decisions ( HR manager ).

The head of cabinet chairs a committee of advisors, which usually consists of a deputy and simple members.

  • EU Heads of Cabinet: Within the European Union, these cabinets are common to both Commissioners and other functions, e.g. B. known to directors-general of the administration of the institutions of the EU or the President of the European Parliament .
  • In Austria is known as the Chef de Cabinet of the head of the private office of the Federal Chancellor , the "right hand" of the government. Cabinets support the Vice Chancellor and every minister . The heads of cabinet and their deputies are among the most influential people in the country's politics.
  • In France, the "chef de cabinet" is a kind of head of the ministerial office or the head of a minister's personal assistant.
