history

founding

Kartalspor was founded on August 18, 1949 in the Bahar restaurant in the Kartal district of the same name . The founders were Mustafa Gürsel, Haluk Akan, Mustafa Karakas, Enver Ersoylu, Sadettin Oral, Ismail Perin, Vahit Kınay. On February 22, 1965, the team entered a league for the first time. You played in Istanbul's amateur league at the time.

Entry into professional football

After Turkish professional football had been reduced from three to just two professional leagues in the summer of 1980, the third highest professional football league, the 3rd Lig , now known as TFF 2nd Lig , was reintroduced in 1984 on the directive of then President Turgut Özal . In addition, it was announced that after certain requirements and conditions have been met, you can apply for participation in the league. In order to promote urban development, several district notables tried to meet the requirements. For example, a free space was temporarily converted into a football stadium. After the conditions were met, the Turkish Football Association confirmed participation. So Kartalspor took part in the 1984/85 re-introduced 3rd Lig. In the first season, the club finished the league in 8th place in the table. Already in the first season the club reached the championship of the 3rd Lig and rose for the first time in the club's history to the second highest Turkish league, then known as the 2nd Lig .

Promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi

The third division season 1987/88 ended the team as champions of group 9 and rose for the first time in the club's history the 2nd Futbol Ligi , the second highest division at the time. The team only secured the championship on the last day of the match with a 3-1 home win against İstanbul DSİ .

System-related forced relegation to the TFF 2nd Lig

Since Turkish professional football was to undergo fundamental changes in the 2001/02 season, preparations for this change were made in the 2000/01 season. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-lane Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-lane and two-stage Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight -lane Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig . Those teams that only occupied a middle place in the table in the second division season 2000/01 were assigned to the newly created third-highest Turkish division, the second league, for the coming season. Kartalspor, which had finished the league in 4th place in the table, had to relegate to the 2nd Lig due to the system.

Modern times

The club has developed into a talent factory over the years and traditionally has good youth teams. In 2011/12, the second team, Kartalspor A2 , which consisted almost exclusively of young players who were about to join the professional team, won the championship of the reserve team league TFF A2 Ligi .

In the summer of 2013, the club was relegated to the TFF 2nd Lig. In his first third division season after relegation, the team finished in 5th place in the table and qualified for the play-off phase of the league. In the play-offs that came out in the quarter-finals against Göztepe Izmir .

For the 2013/14 season, the Turkish Football Association imposed a point deduction of six points on the directive of UEFA Kartalspor. This punishment was justified with violations of UEFA's financial fair play . At the beginning of October 2014, the club was threatened with forced relegation ordered by UEFA if the club were to pay the outstanding salary of 160,000 Turkish lira to their former player Christian Akande Kotchoni by October 10, 2014 . Kartalspor, which under normal circumstances had collected 60 points in the 2014/15 season and thus secured the play-off participation by taking 3rd place in the table, slipped to 8th place in the table due to the 6-point deduction and thus missed the direct position Resurgence.

In the 2015/16 season the club missed relegation in the TFF 2nd Lig and was relegated to the TFF 3rd Lig for the first time in the club's history .
