Ali Kemal Denizci (born March 1, 1950 in Trabzon ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his work and the success he has achieved for Trabzonspor , he is very strongly associated with this club. He is seen by fans and clubs as one of the most important players in club history. Because of his sweeping and unpredictable style of play and his daring lifestyle, he was one of the most popular players of his time. Because of his speed, his unpredictable advances and dribbling in the position of the right winger , he was called Firtina Kemal (German: Sturm Kemal or Tornado Kemal ) when he was playing .
Player career
society
Denizci started playing football on the street and then played in the youth teams of various amateur clubs in his hometown Trabzon . His first larger club was Çarşıbaşı SK . After he was active here for a year he moved to Trabzon Yolspor . From here he went to the then third division club Rizespor . For this club he played for two years and during this time caught the talent hunters of several clubs in the upper leagues.
The best offer for a move made him the second division Kayserispor . Denizci agreed and was on her way to the city of Kayseri . Immediately before that, he received an offer from the newly founded Trabzonspor club, which played in the TFF 1st Lig . Since Denizci did not want to leave his home country, he accepted the Trabzonspors offer and canceled Kayserispor. In his first season for Trabzonspor they finished second behind Kayserispor and missed promotion to the Süper Lig with the same number of points because of the worse goal difference . In the following season they reached the championship of the 1st Lig and thus promotion to the Süper Lig.
The first season in the top Turkish league was successful for Denizci. On the one hand, he completed 22 league games and, on the other hand, he made the leap into the Turkish national team . His team occupies ninth place in the table and was not noticed as a team. In the second Süper Lig season, the 1975/76 season , the championship was completely surprisingly achieved. Up to this season, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul decided the championship of the Süper Lig among themselves. With Eskişehirspor , another Anatolian club narrowly missed the championship three times, but the ban remained. It was only solved with Trabzonspor's championship. After this championship, the league was dominated the next season and, in addition to the championship, collected all the other trophies in Turkish football by winning the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Supercup . One also attracted attention on the European football stage. In the second round of the 1976/77 European Cup, the reigning English champions and later Champions League winners Liverpool FC . Liverpool were considered one of the best teams in European football at the time and were the big favorites for these encounters. Trabzonspor surprisingly won their first game in Trabzon 1-0. Denizci had a significant share in this success through his fast advances and his dribbling on the right wing and was shown as one of the match winners. The second leg was lost 3-0. It was not until the 1977/78 season that the championship was awarded to Fenerbahçe with a point difference, but the two other trophies were won.
Trabzonspor got into big financial difficulties at this time and saw the solution in selling some stars. In addition, they wanted to create a revision in the team. Denizci was the big star of the team, both footballer and lifestyle, and was courted by the major Istanbul clubs. So it was decided to sell Denizci to players. Despite major fan protests and Denizci's unwillingness, he was sold to Fenerbahçe Istanbul .
Trabzonspor recovered from its financial problems for the new season and dominated Turkish football for several years. Denizci played for Fenerbahçe for three years and only won the Turkish Football Cup with this team in the 1978/79 season .
At the end of the 1980/81 season, Denizci persuaded the then coach Fenerbahçes, Friedel Rausch , to let him go during a binge . Rausch agreed and so Denizci moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul . At this club he got along better and won the Turkish championship at the end of the 1981/82 season . After this season he played another at Beşiktaş and ended his playing career.
National team
Denizci made his international debut for the Turkish national team on March 19, 1975 in a friendly against the Romanian national team . From then on he was a permanent fixture in the national team for several years. He made 27 appearances for Turkey and scored three goals.
Coaching career
He started his coaching career by working as a youth coach in the youth of Trabzonspor .
In 1991 he started to work as head coach and took over Kartalspor . He then coached various teams in the lower Turkish leagues. At the end of the 1992/93 season he reached third place in the table with Karabükspor and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig .
In the summer of 1997 he returned to Trabzonspor and worked alongside Özkan Sümer as an assistant coach. After his resignation, he took over the post of head coach.
At the end of the season he left Trabzonspor and then trained Elazığspor .
In the summer of 2000 he was hired for the second time at the second division Karabükspor , but was unsuccessful. At the end of the season he reached third place in the table with the team and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig .
