Ergün Penbe (born May 17, 1972 in Zonguldak ) is a former Turkish football player and today's coach.
Player career
society
Ergün Penbe began his professional career in the 1990/91 season at Kilimli Belediyespor . After just one season Ergün managed to switch to the Süper Lig . From then on he played for Gençlerbirliği Ankara . In the first two years he only came to three missions, only in the third year Penbe established himself in the regular team. At the end of the 1993/94 season he left Ankara and signed with Galatasaray Istanbul .
In the jersey of Galatasaray Istanbul, the midfielder played 304 league games in 13 years and scored ten goals. In the Red-Yellow he was six times Turkish football champion and four times Turkish cup winner. He was also part of the squad that won the UEFA Cup and later the UEFA Supercup in the 1999/2000 season .
Ergün Penbe ended his career with Gaziantepspor after the 2007/08 season .
National team
Ergün Penbe played for Turkey for the first time against Russia on April 20, 1994 . He took part with the national team in the European Football Championship 2000 , the Football World Championship in 2002 and the Confederation Cup in 2003 .
His 49th and last international match made Penbe on September 6, 2006 in the European Championship qualifier against Malta .
Coaching career
In the 2008/09 season Penbe was assistant coach of Erdoğan Arıca at Hacettepespor . After Arıca was terminated by Hacettepespor on March 3, 2009, Ergün Penbe took over the team for the rest of the season. Short positions at Mersin İdman Yurdu , Kartalspor and Kayseri Erciyesspor followed .
In November 2011 Penbe took over the third division club Giresunspor . With this club Penbe did not achieve the success he had hoped for. Rather, he played with his team towards the end of the season against relegation and only secured relegation in the last few weeks. At the end of the season he left Giresunspor again.
