1st Lig 1997/98

The 1st Lig 1998/99 was the 41st season of the highest Turkish league in men's football. It started on August 7, 1998 with defending champion Fenerbahçe Istanbul against Çanakkale Dardanelspor and ended with the 34th matchday on May 30, 1999. Galatasaray Istanbul became Turkish champions for the third time in a row and was the only club to achieve this with this success Success for the second time. Newcomer Erzurumspor became the 58th participant since the 1st Lig.

For the 1st Lig 1998/99, the 15 clubs that remained from the previous season were joined by the three promoted teams from the last second division season . The climbers were the first and second place in the 2nd league Erzurumspor and Adanaspor and the play-off winner of the 2nd Lig Sakarya . While the rise for Erzurumspor meant the first participation in the club's history in the 1st Lig, Adanaspor returned after eight years and Sakaryaspor after new years in the 1st Lig.

1 MKE Ankaragücü had qualified for the UEFA Cup by finishing third in the national cup . The finalists Galatasaray and Beşiktaş had registered for the Champions League. Ankaragücü won a play-off between the defeated semi-finalists on June 3, 1999 in Izmir 5-0 against Sakaryaspor.
