← Türkiye Kupası 1997/98 |
The Türkiye Kupası 1998/99 was the 37th edition of the Turkish soccer cup competition . The competition began on September 2, 1998 with the first round and ended on May 5, 1999 with the second leg of the final. In the final game met Galatasaray and Besiktas each other. Galatasaray took part in the final for the 17th time and Beşiktaş for the tenth time. Both clubs played against each other for the fifth time in the final.
Galatasaray Istanbul won the trophy for the 12th time. They defeated Beşiktaş 2-0 in the decisive second leg. In the first leg the result was a draw (0-0).
This season was the last time from the round of 16 to the final with a return leg. Fenerbahçe Istanbul was not allowed to participate in the cup due to a ban from the Turkish Football Association . After a Trabzonspor fan hit Fenerbahçe coach Otto Barić with a foreign body last year , the team left the field in the 75th minute. The association excluded Fenerbahçe Istanbul from the cup for this action.

3rd place match
The game for third place was only played after the 1998/99 season. The reason was that the two finalists Galatasaray Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul occupied places 1 and 2 in the league and thus one UEFA Cup place was still free. In the game for third place, Ankaragücü secured this place with a 5-0 win.
