Daniel Owefin Amokachi (born December 30, 1972 in Kaduna ) is a former Nigerian football player . He made numerous games for the Nigerian national soccer team . As such, he was a participant in the 1994 and 1998 World Championships . He also contributed to winning the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics .

After retiring as an active player, he began a career as a football coach .

Career

When he played for the Ranchers Bees, he was discovered by the Nigerian national coach Clemens Westerhof , who brought him to the 1990 African Championship . Soon after, he moved to Club Bruges in Belgium . After good performances there and at the 1994 World Cup, Everton became interested in Amokachi and signed him for three million British pounds. He won the FA Cup with this club in 1995 , where he scored two goals in the semifinals. He was only used for a short time in the final, but the fans remembered him because he celebrated with a beret . It stayed in Everton until 1996 without making the expected impression, when it was resold to Beşiktaş Istanbul for £ 1.75 million . Amokachi played for Beşiktaş Istanbul for three full years (1996-1999).

Before the 1998 World Cup, Amokachi was injured, only played one game and subsequently struggled with knee problems. After he left Beşiktaş in 1999, his career was essentially over. He signed with TSV 1860 Munich , but failed the medical tests, whereupon the contract was terminated. For the same reason he was not accepted by the Tranmere Rovers . Amokachi then trained with the French second division club US Créteil , but continued to struggle with injury problems. Colorado Rapids , an American MLS club , signed him in 2002, but when they saw he wasn't fit enough, they fired him before he could play a game. He went to play in the United Arab Emirates , but failed there again due to medical problems.

He is now part of the Nigerian team of trainers, he has numerous other professional opportunities as he is also a graduate of the New York Law School and thus a fully trained lawyer.
