Mbwana Ally Samatta (born December 23, 1992 in Dar es Salaam ) is a Tanzanian national soccer player . The striker has played for English club Aston Villa since January 2020 .

Club career

Mbwana Samatta played for African Lyon FC in his youth, from where he moved to the first division club Simba SC in 2010 . Just a year later, he joined the top African club TP Mazembe in the DR Congo . Here he celebrated the national championship four times and won the CAF Champions League in 2015 .

On January 29, 2016, he moved on to the Belgian first division club KRC Genk for a transfer fee of € 800,000 .

In May 2019 Samatta received the Ebbenhouten Schoen , an award for the best African player or player of African descent in Division 1A .

On January 20, 2020, Samatta moved to the English club Aston Villa and signed a contract there until summer 2024.

National team

In the 52 international matches for Tanzania so far , the striker has scored 19 goals. He made his debut on March 26, 2011 in the home game against Central Africa , where he promptly scored the 2-1 winner. He has been the captain of the national team since 2016 and played for them in all three group matches in the 2019 Africa Cup . After three defeats Tanzania was eliminated there after the group stage.
