Career

society

John McGinn was born in Glasgow in 1994 . He began his career in Paisley, about 11 kilometers west of Glasgow, with the local first division club FC St. Mirren . He made his professional debut for the Saints in October 2012 at the age of 18 in the league game against Celtic Glasgow when he came on for Jim Goodwin . After two more appearances under Danny Lennon in November of the same year against Dundee FC and Ross County , his contract was extended to 2015. On the last day of the 2012/13 season he scored his first professional goal against FC Kilmarnock . In the league McGinn reached with his team at the end of the season only the penultimate place in the table. For this he sensationally won the Scottish League Cup in the final against Heart of Midlothian with the Saints in 2013 . When the Saints won the first title in this competition , McGinn stood for eighty minutes. In the following season 2013/14 he was an absolute regular player in the first division and completed 35 of 38 possible league games. It was also an important part of the following 2014/15 season and was used 30 times. Despite all this, relegation to the second division was clear at the end of the season. McGinn, whose contract had expired, did not renew the contract in Paisley. In July 2015 he moved to the ambitious second division club Hibernian Edinburgh and signed a four-year contract. With the club he rose to the first division in the 2016/17 season. In Edinburgh, McGinn was a regular for three seasons. In August 2018 he moved to the English second division team Aston Villa . There he was immediately a regular and McGinn not only completed 40 league games, but also counted among the goalscorers in the play-off final against Derby County in a 2-1 win. In August 2019, McGinn signed a new five-year contract with Aston Villa.

National team

John McGinn played four times for the Scottish U-19 team in 2013 . In 2014 he was nominated for the U-21 for the first time .
