Matthew "Matt" Robert Targett (born September 18, 1995 in Eastleigh ) is an English - Scottish football player . The Southampton FC- trained left-back has been with the Southampton youth team since 2003. In the 2014/15 season he played his first competitive games in the first team and his performance was honored with the award of "Southampton's Young Player of the Season" after the end of the season.

In January 2018 he was loaned to English second division club Fulham until the end of the 2017/18 season. In July 2019 he moved to first division promoted Aston Villa .

International career

Targett played for England's U-19s and the U-20 and U-21 teams . He made his U-21 debut on March 27, 2015 in a game against the Czech U-21s . In 2016 he was a regular in the team that won the Toulon tournament.
