Anwar El Ghazi (born May 3, 1995 in Barendrecht ) is a Dutch football player with Moroccan roots. The right winger is under contract with the English first division club Aston Villa .

Career

El Ghazi moved from Sparta Rotterdam to Ajax Amsterdam's U-19s for the 2013/14 season . From the 2014/15 season he was in the professional squad at Ajax. El Ghazi made his Eredivisie debut on August 10, 2014 against Vitesse Arnhem . El Ghazi developed into a key player at Ajax and particularly impressed in the first half of the 2015/16 season with eight goals in 13 games. In January 2017 he moved to the Lille OSC in Ligue 1 . El Ghazi was loaned to the English second division Aston Villa in the 2018/19 season for a loan fee of 2 million euros and was then signed for 9 million euros after the club was promoted to the top English division . He was awarded a four-year contract until 2023.

National team

Because of his background, he could have played for both the Netherlands and Morocco . In October 2015, he made his first two senior internationals for the Netherlands.
