Marvelous Nakamba (born January 19, 1994 in Hwange ) is a Zimbabwean football player . The midfielder has been under contract with the English first division club Aston Villa since August 2019 .

Career

Born in Hwange , Zimbabwe , Nakamba began playing football at Highlanders FC . In 2010 he moved to the Bantu Rovers , where he made his debut at the age of 16. In July 2012, he left his home country and joined the second division AS Nancy in France . After almost two years on the pitch for the reserve team, he made his debut for the team on the penultimate match day of the 2014/15 season on May 9, 2014, when he was in the starting lineup in the 3-1 home win over SCO Angers . He was also used in the last game of the season and left Nancy afterwards. He moved to the Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse Arnheim , where he signed a four-year contract. On September 27, 2014, he made his debut in the 6-2 win against FC Dordrecht when he came into the game for Kelvin Leerdam . In the 2015/16 season , Nakamba became an increasingly important part of the Vitesses starting lineup, in which he was also able to score his first goal in professional football. In the 2-2 draw against BV De Graafschap , Nakamba achieved the interim 1-0 lead Vitesses. This season he has already played in 30 league games. In the 2016/17 season he won the Dutch Cup with Vitesse for the first time in the club's 125-year history . This season he played in 31 league games, in which he scored a goal.

On July 1, 2017, Marvelous Nakamba moved to the Belgian first division club FC Brugge for a transfer fee of three million euros. There he signed a four-year contract. He made his debut at Bruges on July 29, 2017 in a 4-0 away win over Sporting Lokeren . In his first 2017/18 season , Nakamba only missed five competitive games for the Belgians. In the league he completed 35 games and he also played in five cup games and four qualifying games for international competitions. In the next Division 1A 2018/19 he only made 18 league appearances, as newcomer Mats Rits was often able to push him out of the starting lineup.

On August 1, 2019, Nakambas was announced to join English Premier League promoted Aston Villa , where he signed a five-year contract. His new club paid a transfer fee of 12 million euros for the midfielder . He followed his teammates Wesley Moraes and Björn Engels , who had already switched to the team from Birmingham in this transfer window. On August 27, he made his debut for the Villans in a 6-1 away win against the lower class club Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Cup . After he was not considered in the next games, he played his first game in the Premier League on September 16 (5th matchday) in a 0-0 draw against West Ham United . He played 29 league games this 2019/20 season.

National team

Marvelous Nakamba made his debut for the Zimbabwean national team on June 13, 2015, when he came on as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Malawi in the second half.
