Giuseppe Cardoni

Giuseppe Cardoni (born February 27, 1802 in Rome , † April 7 or April 8, 1873 there ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop and president of the academy for the ecclesiastical nobility .

Life

He received on April 18, 1825 sacrament of holy orders and became the Roman seminar on 29 December for Doctor iuris utriusque and 16 August 1830 a doctor of theology doctorate . Giuseppe Cardoni was professor of moral theology at the Apollinaria , next to it canon of Santa Maria Maggiore , examiner of the Roman clergy , vice-president of the academy for the ecclesiastical nobility and papal secret chamberlain . On May 9, 1846, he entered the service of the Curia as consultor of the Index Congregation, and on May 2, 1847, he became consultor of the Congregation for Indulgences and Holy Relics . He was appointed President of the Academy for the Church Nobility on September 15, 1848, a position he held until his death.

Pope Pius IX appointed him on September 27, 1852 titular bishop of Carystus . He was ordained bishop on November 7th of the same year by Cardinal Lodovico Altieri ; Co- consecrators were Archbishop Antonio Ligi-Bussi OFMConv and Vincenzo Tizzani CRL , former Bishop of Terni . Giuseppe Cardoni was appointed secretary of the Congregation for the Examination of Bishops on June 16, 1856. On December 21, 1863 he was appointed bishop of Recanati and Loreto , which he held until his resignation on February 22, 1867 and was then made titular archbishop of Edessa in Osrhoëne . On June 9, 1870, he became Prefect of the Papal Secret Archives as the successor to Augustin Theiner , who was led by Pius IX. had been removed from office. Giuseppe Cardoni participated in the First Vatican Council .

Giuseppe Cardoni died in Rome on the night of April 7th, 1873.
