Diocese of Recanati
The Diocese of Recanati ( Latin Recinetensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese in Italy based in Recanati , Marche .
It was founded on November 22nd, 1239. On February 9, 1592 it was united with the diocese of Loreto to form the diocese of Recanati e Loreto. On September 15, 1934, the name was changed back to the Diocese of Recanati, and Loreto with the Marian Shrine was detached from the diocese on October 11, 1935 as the Apostolic Administration Loreto .
On January 25, 1985, it was united with the dioceses of Macerata e Tolentino , Osimo e Cingoli and parts of the diocese of San Severino-Treia to the diocese of Macerata-Tolentino-Recanati-Cingoli-Treia .
In the beginning it often lost and regained its status as a diocese because of papal politics.
The Cathedral of San Flaviano is a co- cathedral and a minor basilica .
