Giulio Roma (born September 16, 1584 in Milan , † September 16, 1652 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church and bishop of Recanati and Loreto .

Life

Roma was born on September 16, 1584 in Milan, one of sixteen children to noble parents. He was educated at the University of Pavia and the University of Perugia .

At a young age he became chamberlain to Cardinal Federico Borromeo , Archbishop of Milan . He then went to Rome and had the ear of Pope Paul V. He then moved to Rome and became 1607 Konsitorialanwalt. In 1618 he became governor of Orvieto , 1619 governor of Camerino and 1619 governor of Perugia . He stayed there until his creation as cardinal, which took place in the last consistory of Paul V on January 11, 1621. On March 3, 1621, the Pope assigned the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva to him.

On March 17, 1621 he was appointed Bishop of Recanati and Loreto. He received his episcopal ordination on May 16, 1621 Cardinal Giambattista Leni with the assistance of Giovanni Luigi Pasolini and Fabrizio Landriani . Cardinal Roma participated in the 1621 and 1623 conclaves . On August 21, 1634 he was appointed Bishop of Tivoli , where he rebuilt the cathedral and began the reconstruction of Alba Cathedral. On March 28, 1639 he changed his titular church and became cardinal priest of Santa Prassede .

On July 13, 1644 he opted to be elevated to Cardinal Bishop of Frascati , but Pope Urban VIII died two weeks later . Roma now took part in the 1644 Conclave , from which Innocent X emerged as the new pontiff, who made him the Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and Cardinal Subdean.

On April 29, 1652 he was appointed Dean of the Holy College , Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri and Governor of Velletri . He died in Rome on his 68th birthday.
