Giovanni Battista Leni

Giambattista Leni (* 1573 in Rome ; † November 3, 1627 ibid) was an Italian Roman Catholic cardinal and bishop . He belonged to a noble Roman family that died out on his death.

biography

Leni was Bishop of Miletus from July 4, 1608 . Pope Paul V appointed him on 24 November 1608 at the consistory to cardinal priest with the titular church of San Sisto .

On August 3, 1611, he was transferred to the bishopric of Ferrara and on March 5, 1618, he chose the titular church of Santa Cecilia .

In 1623 he was appointed Archpriest of the Basilica of St. John Lateran, a position he held for about two years.

In 1626 he became Camerlengo of the College of Cardinals .

He died on November 3, 1627 at the age of 54 and was buried in the chapel of John the Baptist in the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

He was the last representative of the family, which therefore died out with him. When he died, he inherited the Church of San Carlo ai Catinari in Rome.
