Eric Addo (born November 12, 1978 in Accra , Ghana ) is a former Ghanaian soccer player who also has Belgian citizenship.

Career

society

The defensive midfielder Eric Addo, who was later often used in central defense , was discovered by Club Bruges in 1996 at the Ghanaian club Noble Harrics and received his first professional contract in Belgium. In 1998 he was named Belgium's Young Player and Ghana's Footballer of the Year. In addition to these awards, he also won the championship with Bruges and received the Ebbenhouten Schoen as the best African player in the Jupiler League .

In 1999 he moved to the top Dutch club PSV Eindhoven , where he received a contract until 2007. His start at the Dutch club was plagued by many injuries, so he only played 24 games in over three years. For the winter break of the 2002/03 season he was therefore loaned to Roda Kerkrade , where he played for a year until the winter break of the following season and then returned to Eindhoven. After his return he was a regular player and won six championships with PSV.

In October 2007 Addo drew attention to himself when he spat at his opponent Semih Şentürk in the Champions League encounter against Fenerbahçe Istanbul . He was then banned from UEFA for four European Cup matches. At the end of the 2007/08 season PSV were champions there for the sixth time in Addo's time, but the Ghanaian only made twelve league appearances. Due to the unfortunate situation, it was again loaned to Kerkrade during the 2008/09 winter break. For the 2009/10 season he then officially moved to Roda JC. In total, he completed 65 games for Roda JC, 58 of them in the Eredivisie. He scored his only goal for the Black and Yellows on January 30, 2009 with a header after a corner from Boldizsár Bodor in a 3-1 win against Heracles Almelo . In June 2011 he was officially adopted on the homepage of Roda JC.

From January to April 2012 Addo completed four more games for the second division club FC Eindhoven and then ended his active career.

National team

In 1998 Eric Addo was offered to play for his adopted home Belgium and their national team at the 1998 World Cup , but he refused and opted for his home country Ghana . With the Ghanaian national team , he qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and, along with Samuel Kuffour, is one of the most experienced defensive players in Ghana.
