Semih Şentürk (born April 29, 1983 in İzmir , Turkey ) is a former Turkish football player .

Career

society

On September 17, 1999 Semih Şentürk signed his professional contract and switched from the amateur team of İzmir Özçamdibispor to the youth team of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . For this he scored 63 goals in 56 games. He played his first official competitive game for the first team of Fenerbahçe on February 17, 2001 in the Süper Lig game against Siirtspor . He was used for about 15 minutes in this game.

On June 14, 2001 he extended his contract at Fenerbahçe SK for two years. He scored his first goal in the Süper Lig on April 6, 2003 against Adanaspor .

On December 17, 2005 he managed to score four goals in 71 minutes in a 6-2 win over Denizlispor . He scored his first goal in the European Cup on December 13, 2006 in the UEFA Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt to equalize 2-2, thus ensuring his team progress in the cup. Here, too, he was substituted on 15 minutes before the end. His first four appearances in the UEFA Champions League were three times against PSV Eindhoven . In his third game against PSV Eindhoven on November 7, 2007, he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League. In February 2008 Semih met again in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. He came on in the 84th minute; three minutes later he scored a goal and secured his team a 3-2 victory over FC Sevilla .

In the 2007/08 season , Şentürk was the top scorer in the Turkish League with 17 goals , the last six goals he scored as a substitute.

On May 2, 2008 Semih Şentürk extended his contract with Fenerbahçe for another three years, although other European clubs were interested in him. His contract with Fenerbahçe ran until the end of May 2011 and included a fixed transfer fee of around 20 million euros .

From the summer of 2011, Şentürk was more of a reservist after buying Moussa Sow , Henri Bienvenu , Pierre Webo and Dirk Kuyt . Although he came again and again to stakes in the following seasons, he fell short of expectations in these stakes. He completed 18 and 17 league appearances in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons and scored one goal in each of these seasons. Şentürk was also not included in the national team. After Fenerbahçe had strengthened in the storm in the summer of 2013 with the Nigerian Emmanuel Emenike , the club management asked Şentürk to find a new club. Şentürk, who still had a contract that was valid until the summer of 2014, refused and was then suspended from the team.

In the winter break of the 2013/2014 season, Şentürk Fenerbahçe left after 15 years and moved to league rivals Medical Park Antalyaspor . After this club had missed relegation at the end of the season, Şentürk, whose contract was only for the Süper Lig, was released. Then Şentürk moved within the 1st Turkish division to the promoted Istanbul Başakşehir . At this club he established himself straight away and at the end of the season he became the club's first division scorer with eleven goals. In his second season he was out due to injury and ended it with eight league appearances without a goal. When his contract ended in summer 2016, he left Istanbul Başakşehir.

For the 2016/17 season he was hired by the second division Eskişehirspor . Şentürk played for Eskişehirspor for two seasons. He came to 47 league games and scored 18 goals.

On September 9, 2018, he announced the end of his career.

National team

Semih Şentürk went through all Turkish national youth teams from U-15 to U-21 . He played a total of 84 international matches for all youth selections and scored 43 goals.

At the Balkan U-17 Junior Championship in Turkey in August 1999, Turkey entered the tournament with two selections, namely with the U-16 and U-17 . Şentürk played in the U-16 youth team and won the tournament with her. In the final they defeated the U-17 juniors of Yugoslavia with a 7-0 victory, while he managed to score five goals in 52 minutes. Because of this performance, he received a month later a professional contract with the traditional Turkish club Fenerbahçe Istanbul.

Semih Şentürk was appointed by Fatih Terim for the last two European Championship 2008 qualifiers for the Turkish national team, where he also made his international debut for Turkey on November 17, 2007 against Norway . On May 29, 2008, he scored his first international goal as a substitute in the friendly against Finland . On June 11, 2008, he scored 1-1 at the European Championships eleven minutes after his substitution against hosts Switzerland , and he also initiated the counterattack for Turkey's 2-1 win in stoppage time . During the European Championship 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, Semih was taken on the day of the pre-group match between Turkey and the Czech Republic, the permanent state university entrance examination in the training area of the team. In the quarter-final against the Croatian selection , Semih Şentürk equalized 1-1 in the 122nd minute, shortly after Ivan Klasnić scored the opening goal in the 119th minute, and shot his team into penalties , which the Turkish national team 3-1 won. Among the shooters was Semih, who also scored here again. This penalty was the first in Semih's professional career. In the subsequent semi-final against Germany , he slipped into the starting line-up due to the many injured and suspended players. Semih Şentürk scored in the 86th minute to equalize 2-2.

Şentürk mostly acts as a joker and often scores his goals in the final minutes, as in the UEFA Euro 2008.

In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup , he played six games, scoring one goal each against Armenia and Spain .
