← Süper Lig 2013/14 | |
The Spor Toto Süper Lig 2014/15 (officially: Spor Toto Süper Lig Süleyman Seba Sezonu ) was the 57th season of the highest Turkish division in men's football . It started on August 29, 2014 and ended on May 31, 2015. The actual league name Süper Lig bears this company name as a name extension due to the name sponsorship contract with the state betting company Spor Toto and is therefore called Spor Toto Süper Lig . Due to the death of Süleyman Seba on August 14, 2014, the Turkish Football Association decided to name the 2014/15 season in reference to the former president of Beşiktaş Istanbul Spor Toto Süper Lig, Süleyman Seba Sezonu .
The champion was Galatasaray , which celebrated its 20th championship title in the club's history and was the first Turkish soccer team to decorate its coat of arms with a fourth star .
Competition mode and modalities
Competition mode
The league was organized with home and away games in such a way that all 18 participating teams had to compete against each other twice. The game was played according to the three-point rule . In the event of victory, the winning team received three points and the losing team did not receive any points. After a draw, both teams received a point. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison between the teams concerned was decisive and then the goal difference.
The team that took first place in the table after the last matchday was the new Turkish champions , while the last three in the table were relegated to the TFF 1. Lig , the second highest Turkish division.
Distribution of the Europa Cup places
The top two of the season will take part in the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League according to the UEFA five-year ranking, with the champions qualifying directly and the runner - up having to qualify through the qualifying rounds based on their club coefficient . The teams in third and fourth place qualify for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League . If the cup winner ends up in the top four in the table, the team also qualifies in fifth place for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League.
Transfer periods
While the summer transfer period of the 2014/15 season began on June 10, 2014 and ended on September 1, 2014, the winter transfer period began on January 6, 2015 and ended on February 5, 2015.
Quota of foreigners
In the summer of 2013, the Turkish Football Association published the new foreigner regulation for the Süper Lig. This new regulation was decided upon at the request of the first division clubs . Accordingly, the clubs should be allowed to keep a maximum of ten foreign players under contract in the Süper Lig 2013/14 . Of these ten players, only six were allowed to start and no foreign players were allowed to sit on the bench. This regulation was originally intended to be strengthened in the following season, the 2014/15 season, so that there were only eight players in the squad, but only five were allowed to play in the starting line-up and again no foreign players were allowed to play as substitutes . Since this new regulation caused difficulties for the clubs and led to a heated discussion throughout the season, the national football association came to the clubs with a compromise and changed the foreigner regulation with the 2014/15 season. From now on, only eight foreign players may be in the squad again and a maximum of five players may be used again, but three foreign players may be among the substitute players and may be used against other foreign players or against domestic players, provided that this means the maximum used Number of foreign players remained at a maximum of five.
Attendees
For the 2014/15 season, the 15 clubs remaining from the previous season were joined by the three promoted teams from the last second division season . As a second division champion, Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor rose and thus managed to return directly to the Süper Lig. As runner-up in the TFF 1. Lig, Balıkesirspor also made the rise and returned to the Süper Lig after 39 years. The third and last climber was the playoff winner Mersin İdman Yurdu .

Special occurrences
- In summer 2014, UEFA fined the three Süper Lig clubs Galatasaray Istanbul , Trabzonspor and Bursaspor a € 200,000 fine for violating the association's financial fair play rules .
- Before the start of the season, the newcomer Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor spun off its football division, converted it into an independent company and named it Istanbul Başakşehir .
- The Kayseri Erciyesspor club signed a name sponsorship agreement with the construction company Suat Altın İnşaat . Thereafter, the club will have the company name in its club name for the duration of the contract and will therefore be called Suat Altın İnşaat Kayseri Erciyesspor ( SAİ Kayseri Erciyesspor for short ).
- On the first day of the season, eight of the 18 top division teams had no main sponsor. Even in the one lower TFF 1st Lig , twelve of the total of 18 second division teams had no main sponsor. This lack of interest on the part of companies in sponsorship contracts with the Turkish first and second division teams was announced or interpreted by some as a consequence of the match-fixing scandal in Turkish football. In that, clubs like Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul in Turkey were convicted of match manipulation, but remained unpunished for their offenses by the Turkish Football Association . The UEFA , however, imposed several penalties against both teams. The two clubs Sivasspor and Eskişehirspor , which were also involved in the match-fixing scandal, were also fined by UEFA.
- In January 2015, the Sivasspor club signed a name sponsorship agreement with the Medicana hospital chain for a year and a half. Thereafter, the club will have the company name in its club name for the duration of the contract and will therefore be called Medicana Sivasspor .
