The Eskişehir Ataturk Stadı (also Eskişehir Ataturk Stadyumu , German Eskişehir Ataturk Stadium ) was a football stadium in the Turkish city of Eskişehir .
history
Construction began in 1953 and was in operation from 1962. It offered 13,520 seats. In 2005 the opposite stand was renovated. The standing room was converted into seating. However, this modernization resulted in a loss of capacity (the previous capacity was 24,000). As in the first division season 1995/96 , portable grandstands were to be built behind the goals in order to be able to accommodate more visitors. The stadium was mainly used for soccer games and until 2016 was the home stadium of the Turkish soccer club Eskişehirspor , which is moving to the new Eskişehir Yeni Ataturk Stadı for the 2016/17 season.
On May 14, 2016, the last league game took place in Eskişehir Ataturk Stadı. The relegation-threatened Eskişehirspor lost 2-1 to Istanbul Başakşehir . Out of frustration with the result, visitors tore seats from the stands and set parts of the stadium on fire. The stadium has since been demolished.
particularities
The stadium in Eskişehir is one of the first in Turkey to be equipped with a floodlight system. An international match was also broadcast live on Turkish television from this stadium for the first time.
