history

The Eskişehir Yeni Ataturk Stadı is one of a number of new football stadiums in Turkey. A total of over twenty new venues are to be built. This construction program was started with an application to host a European football championship . A plot of land on the western outskirts was chosen as the location. The architectural firm Bahadır Kul Architects designed the new venue. You were u. a. also responsible for the Konya Büyükşehir Stadı and the Mersin Arena . The construction costs were estimated at 107.6 million TRY (27.53 million euros ). The two construction companies Arsel İnşaat and MD İnşaat were entrusted with the construction. Construction work should start in autumn 2012 and be completed in 2015, but delays caused the preliminary work on the site to be postponed to April 2013.

Construction was officially started on August 23, 2013. The planned roof structure with originally eight to ten load-bearing columns was later changed. 28 smaller supports were used to cover the football arena. After around three years and three months, the Eskişehir Yeni Ataturk Stadı was inaugurated on November 20, 2016 with the Eskişehirspor league game against Malatyaspor (2-0). Hasan Acar scored the first goal in the stadium in the 15th minute. At the time of the inauguration, the stadium was still not completely finished.

The southern facade is white and opaque. On the north side, mostly glass was used for the facade. The four two-story tiers offer a total of 34,390 seats. This includes 225 press spaces and 100 wheelchair-accessible spaces plus 100 more for their companions. The boxes (27 each) of the stadium are located on the longitudinal stands between the upper and lower tier . The seating is in the club colors red, yellow and black. There are three restaurants in the venue . A parking space of almost 13,000 m² was created under the arena . The final construction costs amounted to TRY 130 million (EUR 33.26 million) and were above the planned TRY 107.6 million.

International matches

The Turkish national soccer team played a friendly match in March 2017 in the sold-out Eskişehir Yeni Ataturk Stadı. It was also the first international match in the city of Eskişehir.
