The Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadı ( German  Samsun Stadium of May 19 ) is a football stadium in the Turkish coastal city of Tekkeköy in the province of Samsun . It is the home ground of the football club Samsunspor , which currently plays in the third highest division, the TFF 2nd Lig . It offers a covered seat for 33,919 spectators. The venue replaced the stadium of the same name from 1975 as the new home of Samsunspor. The name refers to May 19, 1919, when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk landed in Samsun by ship and this marked the beginning of the liberation struggle against the occupation and division of Turkey after the First World War .

The new Samsun venue is one of the many new stadiums built in Turkey in the 2010s. The old stadiums in the cities were replaced by modern new buildings outside the city centers. The plots in the cities were sold and the new football arenas built on cheaper, out-of-town areas. Bahadır Kul Architects designed the football arena. The construction company Ali Acar İnşaat was responsible for the construction work . The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 4, 2013, and the preparatory work had already started six months earlier. After almost four years, the new football stadium opened on July 18, 2017. The occasion was the opening ceremony of the Summer Deaflympics 2017 in Samsun. Eleven days later on July 29th, Samsunspor played their friendship game at the new venue against MKE Ankaragücü . The home side won 1-0. On August 6, 2017, the Turkish champions Beşiktaş Istanbul and the cup winners Konyaspor met for the game of the Turkish Football Supercup in the Samsun stadium. Konyaspor won the match 2-1 with a goal in added time.
