Hakan Kadir Balta (born March 23, 1983 in Berlin ) is a former Turkish soccer player .
Career
society
In 2003 Vestel Manisaspor signed Hakan Balta from Hertha BSC . The young defender had a successful time in Manisa . Galatasaray Istanbul wanted to sign the Berliner in 2006, but the move could not be made due to the major financial problems. One day after the tie between Vestel Manisaspor and Galatasaray Istanbul on September 2, 2007, Balta moved to the Bosporus . Galatasaray paid € 750,000 for Hakan. In the same season he was Turkish football champion with Galatasaray.
In the 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons Balta was again Turkish champion with Galatasaray, but lost his regular place to his teammate Albert Riera in the 2012/13 season after various injuries . His contract was nevertheless extended for another two years with an option for another season until May 31, 2015. Since then, Balta has played primarily as a central defender. October 2015, his contract was extended to 2018.
In the 2017/18 season Balta became Turkish champion for the fourth time, but he was not used in any game. His contract ended at the end of the 2017/18 season and was not renewed. Balta then ended his active career.
National team
Due to his German birthplace and his Turkish ancestors, Balta had the choice between the national teams of Germany and Turkey . He chose Turkey.
Hakan Balta played his first international match for Turkey against Norway on November 17, 2007. He was also nominated for the Turkish squad for the 2008 European Football Championship . In the preparatory game for the European Championship against the Slovak selection , Balta scored his first goal in the national dress.
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Turkish squad and was in the starting line-up in all three games of the group stage. He was one of the players who was on the pitch every minute. As one of two thirds in the group, the team narrowly failed due to the goal difference in the preliminary round. Hakan Balta played his 50th and last international match for the Turkish national team in the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on October 6, 2016 .

Hakan Balta has both Turkish and German citizenship . He has two sons with his wife Derya.
