The Emirates Cup is a football season preparation tournament that has been held every summer since 2007 at the Emirates Stadium in London . The host club is Arsenal FC , which has won the first and most of the titles. In the second edition, in 2008, a German club, Hamburger SV , was invited to win the cup for the first time . The current title holder is Arsenal FC.
Each of the four participating teams plays against two other opponents drawn beforehand. You will not play against one opponent at a time. You get three points for a win, one point for a draw and, with the exception of the 2011 edition, you get one point for every goal scored. In the event of a tie, the goal difference decides, and in the event of a tie, the number of shots on the goal.
Only once, in 2011, would the regulation of awarding an additional point for every goal scored have led to another Emirates Cup winner, namely to Paris Saint-Germain instead of the New York Red Bulls , but this year it was they did not apply.
The price
The winner will receive a silver trophy designed by Thomas Fattorini. The trophy was presented to the tournament winner Hamburger SV on August 3, 2008.
“We wanted to create a trophy that was different from the previous one, but that a club could be proud to own,” said Fattorini.
In the following tables the clubs are sorted according to the frequency of their participation (TN) and their countries and continental associations according to the total number of participations (TN) of their clubs in the Emirates Cup. In the case of entries with equal participation, the sorting is based on the placements and, if they are equal, on the chronology of the best placement.
