Goran Pandev ( Macedonian Горан Пандев ; born July 27, 1983 in Strumica ) is a North Macedonian national football player who is under contract with CFC Genoa . He is the record player and record goal scorer in his country.

Career

In the club

Pandev began his career in his home country with FK Belasica . For the 2001/02 season, the striker moved to the top Italian club Inter Milan . However, he was never used there, which is why he was loaned to Spezia Calcio in Serie C1 after only one season . In Spezia it was used regularly and at the end of the season again on loan at Ancona Calcio in the Serie A . Here he was part of the regular squad right away. Since Ancona was relegated at the end of the season, Pandev moved to league rivals Lazio Rome , where he was a regular for four years and became one of the most successful goal scorers in club history.

In the summer of 2009 there was a dispute between Pandev and Lazio President Claudio Lotito : Pandev still had a contract until the summer of 2010, when the Macedonian publicly announced that he wanted to leave the club. After further contract negotiations between Pandev and Lazio had failed, the striker was suspended from his club and did not play a game for the Romans until the termination of his contract, which he obtained before the Italian League Commission.

On January 4, 2010, he signed a contract with Inter Milan until June 2014. He made his Serie A debut for the Nerazzuri on January 6, 2010 in a 0-1 away game against Chievo Verona . Pandev scored his first goal in his third competitive game against AS Bari . On January 24th 2010 he hit the Derby della Madonnina from about 25 meters with a free kick into the goal and brought his team to a 2-0 win against AC Milan . On May 22, 2010, Pandev won the Champions League with Inter . In the 2-0 win against Bayern Munich he was on the starting line-up and was replaced in the 79th minute by midfielder Sulley Muntari . Inter also won the Italian Cup that season and became champions.

His second season at Inter was less successful, however, as Pandev fell into a form low and was only able to convince in a few appearances. Nevertheless, on March 15, 2011 , he scored an important goal in the last 16 of the 2010/11 Champions League : In the second leg against Bayern Munich, he scored the decisive third goal in the 88th minute in his team's 3-2 away win, thus enabling Inter to advance to the quarter-finals, although the first leg in Milan was lost 1-0.

On August 26, 2011 it was announced that Pandev would be loaned to SSC Napoli for one season . With Naples, Pandev won the Coppa Italia at the end of the season . This was his fourth success in the Italian cup competition. On June 6, 2012, the SSC Napoli announced the firm commitment of Pandev for 7.5 million euros. Pandev signed a new three-year contract until June 30, 2015 with an option for another season and accepted a pay cut. After Pandev had won the Italian Cup for the fifth time in his career with Naples in the 2013/14 season, he left the southern Italian city and moved to the Süper Lig at Galatasaray Istanbul for one million euros .

In summer 2015 he moved to CFC Genoa .

In the national team

On June 6, 2001, Pandev made his debut against Turkey in the Macedonian national team (since February 2019 North Macedonia ). Pandev is his association's captain and record scorer with 34 goals. As at club level, he regularly plays in various offensive positions in international matches. Due to differences of opinion with Pandev, national coach Srečko Katanec resigned on April 8, 2009. After the end of Katanec's tenure, however, he returned. On March 21, 2019, he played his 100th international match , setting Goce Sedloski's national record , which he replaced three days later with his 101st international match.
