Tarık Kutver (born January 1, 1938 in Istanbul or Ezine ; † April 20, 2011 in Ezine) was a Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and Karagümrük SK and as a native of Karagümrük SK, he is strongly associated with these clubs. On fan and club pages he is regarded as one of the most important players in club history. He was an important part of the team that had a strong influence on Turkish football in the mid-1960s with players like Metin Oktay , Kadri Aytaç , Suat Mamat , Uğur Köken and Turgay Şeren . Because of the similarity of his style of play and the same position, he was referred to as Çanakkale'nin Lefter'i (dt. Çanakkales Lefter ) based on Lefter Küçükandonyadis . With 99 first division appearances for Karagümrük, after Nihat Çapalar (113 appearances) and Kadri Kartal (109 appearances) he is the player with the third most popular Süper Lig appearances in the club's history.

Player career

Youth and Karagümrük SK

The beginnings of Kutver's football career are documented contradictingly. According to some sources, he was born in the Karagümrük district of Istanbul in 1938 and according to others in 1940 in Ezine . He started with club football at Çanakkale Türkgücü and later moved to the youth department of the traditional Turkish club Fenerbahçe Istanbul . After he had not made it to the 1st team here, Kutver moved to city and league rivals Karagümrük SK . For this Kutver only played in the youth team, but was quickly accepted into the 1st team. At the time of his entry into the professional squad, there was no international professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ) was considered the most renowned. The three big Istanbul clubs Galatasaray , Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş played in this league . Karagümrük, which also belonged to the ancestral Istanbul clubs, played in the 2nd Istanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: 2nd Istanbul Professional League ), the 2nd division of this league. After his move to Karagümrük Kutver played with his team first in the preseasonal Federasyon Kupası (German Association Cup ) and then in the 2nd Istanbul league. At this club, several patrons were elected to the board and tried to build the club next to the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray to the fourth big club. To this end, they invested in ensuring that the club rose from İstanbul İkinci Küme (German: Second Istanbul League ) to İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi in the summer of 1958 . After the promotion, investments were made in the team again, with Kadri Aytaç, the most popular offensive all-rounder in Turkish football at the time, and the Turkish record transfer fee was paid to Galatasaray for this player. Around Aytaç and the other national players such as Fahrettin Cansever and Aydın Yelken , the club's management also signed young players such as Tamer Kaptan and Kutver a year earlier. In the new season Kutver kept his regular place and together Aytaç and Turhan Bayraktutan formed a successful trio. Thanks to this well-positioned troop, the promoted team managed to establish himself in the top third of the table and played for the championship for a long time. At the end of the season, the team lost touch and finished the league in 3rd place in the table.

From the spring of 1959, Kutver and Karamgümrük took part in the newly founded and nationwide Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). This new league replaced the previous regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi. The first season of the Millî Lig was played from February 1959 to June 1959 and ended with a win for Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Karagümrük was far behind in the middle of the table. In the second Milli-Lig season, the team only finished in the middle of the table. At the end of the season, Aytaç, an important player, left the team. After this departure, Kutver formed together with Ali Soydan , Tuncay Becedek and Aydın Yelken the offensive department of his team and scored nine league goals himself. After Karamgümrük had occupied an important middle place in the table in the 1960/61 season, the team played against relegation in the 1961/62 season. This circumstance led the patron to withdraw his financial support. So many players were put up for sale. Several clubs were interested in Kutver, who scored eleven league goals last season, was the most successful goalscorer of his team and was promoted to national coach.

Galatasaray Istanbul

Galatasaray took an early interest in Kutver and agreed with Karagümrük on a transfer fee of 50,000 Turkish Lira . After this agreement, Beşiktaş also tried to get Kutver and even signed a preliminary contract with him. The move to Beşiktaş failed after Karagümrük's President İbrahim Sevin referred to the agreement with Galatasaray and therefore ruled out Kutver's transfer to Beşiktaş. So all parties involved signed the contracts on July 7, 1962, which made Kutver's move to Galatasaray legally binding. Galatasaray paid a transfer fee of 50,000 lira and a total salary of 50,000 lira for two years for Kutver. At Galatasaray, the former player legend Gündüz Kılıç was hired as head coach at the beginning of last season . Kılıç, who had already celebrated great success as a coach with Galatasaray in the mid-1950s, led the last untitled with the championship of the Milli-Lig season 1961/62 to the first Turkish championship in the club's history. After this success Kılıç tried the most important players from his first coaching period at Galatasaray to commit again. At the end of the past season, a return campaign was already underway for star striker Metin Oktay , who had switched to US Palermo . After months of negotiations, Oktay's transfer was completed in late July 1962. In addition, the offensive all-rounder Kadri Aytaç was brought back from arch-rival Fenerbahçe . In addition to these two former players, Kutver was also signed. At his new club he immediately established himself as a regular player and formed a very successful offensive team with Metin Oktay, Kadri Aytaç, Uğur Köken , Suat Mamat and Ayhan Elmastaşoğlu , which scored a large part of the 105 league goals. Kutver scored 17 league goals, was behind Oktay, who was the top scorer with 38 goals, the club's second top scorer, fourth on the scorers list and one of Oktay's most important assists. While Oktay played in the center forward position, Köken acted as left winger and Kutver as right winger. In the 1962/63 season , the club succeeded in the Turkish championship and thus the title defense. Kutver's team also won the newly introduced Turkish Football Cup this season , becoming both the first Turkish cup winner and the first Turkish double winner. In addition, Kutver's team managed to get to the quarter-finals in the 1962/63 European Cup and thus achieved the best placement of a Turkish team in this competition in particular and in all European club competitions in general. In the quarterfinals, the team failed to AC Milan .

Kutver's team started the next season by winning the pre-season cup competition of the TSYD Istanbul Cup . Kutver injured himself that season in the league game of October 23, 1963 against the capital representative Hacettepe GK . In the 56th minute of this game, Kutver clashed with the opposing goalkeeper Sürhat Güngör during a Galatasaray attack and had to be replaced with an injury. A medical examination revealed that Kutver had sustained a meniscus injury and had to take a five to six month break from play due to injury. Since another important player, Uğur Köken, was no longer available to the club from the winter of 1963, Kutver returned to the team in January 1964. In the league game of March 22, 1964 against arch rivals Beşiktaş, there were riots between the players of both teams. After an investigation, the Turkish Football Association decided to bring two players from Beşiktaş and five players from Galatasaray, including Kutver, to its sporting criminal court. This imposed a four-month suspension on Kutver, which meant that he was no longer available for the rest of the season. These failures led to the fact that the team in the league missed the connection to the top of the table and ended the league in 3rd place in the table. The championship was also gambled away in the next season. In both seasons, however, the team won the Turkish Football Cup for the second and third time. As a result, Kutver was also part of the team that won the Turkish Football Cup three times in a row for the first time.

Kutver was noticed in the 1964/65 season by various incidents. He did not appear for training several times and was therefore temporarily suspended from the squad. After he had not received his salary from Galatasaray for a long time, he refused to participate in the training in the spring of 1965. After the interim payments were made, he returned to the team for the second half of the season. In August 1965, Kutver was again absent from training. Due to his tense relationship with the club's management and some injury, Kutver fell out of almost all competitive games of his team by the end of November 1965. He then played until the winter break and fell out again for the second half of the season. It was not until March 1966 that he returned to the team and played all league games by the end of the season. Also in the 1965/66 season the team had no chance in the championship and awarded it with six points clearly different to arch rivals Beşiktaş, but was able to win the Turkish Football Cup for the fourth time in a row and thus set a record in this competition that is still valid today. Kutver also missed the first game days of the 1966/67 season, came to a total of 16 league appearances and scored seven goals. His team played for a long time this season for the championship, but the league was finished in 3rd place in the table. In addition, the team was eliminated in the otherwise safe Turkish Football Cup in the quarter-finals against Altay Izmir and ended the season without a title.

After four untitled seasons in the Turkish championship and the overall untitled last season, a revision of Galatasaray was decided in the summer of 1967. The long-time coach Gündüz Kılıç was replaced by Bülent Eken and many players were put on the sales list, including Kutver.

Mersin İdman Yurdu, Giresunspor and Gaziantepspor

After Galatasaray put him up for sale, he was associated with Mersin İdman Yurdu . At Mersin İY, the local patron of the city of Mersin , Mehmet Emin Karamehmet , was elected club president in the early 1960s and was planning to make his club one of the top clubs in Turkish football. In the summer of 1966, the offensive all-rounder Kadri Aytaç was committed by Galatasaray and with this, in the summer of 1967, promotion to the top Turkish league, the 1st league , was achieved. Aytaç, who worked as an assistant coach for Mersin İY in addition to his work as a player, spoke out in favor of Kutver's commitment after the promotion. With this he had already played together successfully at Karagümrük and Galatasaray.

The club signed Kutver from Galatasaray for a transfer fee of 70,000 lira. At this club he formed together with Osman Arpacıoğlu and Ayhan Öz the storm trio of his club and was supported by his long-time teammate Aytaç as a playmaker from the midfield. The first first division season ended the team in 10th place in the table, with Kutver was one of the top performers and scored seven goals this season. Kutver saw a red card in the match against Adana Demirspor on May 5, 1968 and was fined for it by his club. After this game he did not appear in the last two game days of the season. At the beginning of the 1968/69 season, Kutver was suspended from head coach Turgay Şeren , another long-time teammate from his Galatasaray time, due to indiscipline from the team squad and so missed the first game days of the season. After Kutver apologized from the coaching staff and asserted himself again in the training sessions, he was reinstated in the squad in mid-September. After his admission, he scored one goal in each of the first two league games and was one of the match winners in these games. By the winter break, Kutver played in most of his team's competitive games. He missed the November games due to a suspension. In December 1969, Kutver fell again for indiscipline and was again suspended from the squad by Şeren. According to Şeren, Kutver turned down all advice from him and continued to lead an unbridled life. It was not until March 1969 that he was reinstated by Şeren after he apologized to the squad. The season ended Kutvers team in 6th place in the table and reached the best first division placement in the club's history. Although Kutver had not played for several weeks due to his game suspension or suspension, he was the club's second-best goalscorer with four goals behind Arpacıoğlu. In the 1969/70 season Mersin İY hired a new coach with Bülent Giz . This Kutver had to handle better. The team finished the season in 4th place in the table and achieved the best first division placement in club history, which is still valid today. Kutver completed 26 of 30 possible league games, scoring five goals this season.

Despite the successful last season, the club management put Kutver with his teammate Ali Açıkgöz on the sales list, but decided in July 1970 against a sale and tried to extend the contracts of both players. However, no agreement was reached with Kutver by November 1970. Finally, Kutver moved in November 1971 to the second division Giresunspor . At this club he immediately established himself as a top performer and had a significant share in the second division championship achieved at the end of the season and thus in the promotion to the 1st league.

After this rise, Kutver left Giresunspor and moved to the third division Gaziantepspor . With this club he celebrated the third division championship at the end of the season and thus promotion to the 2nd Futbol Ligi . After the rise, Kutver played a season in the 2nd division for Gaziantepspor.

In the summer of 1973 Kutver moved to his first professional club, the third division club Karagümrük SK. Here he played until the summer of 1975 and then ended his career.

National team

Kutver Uraz began his career with the Turkish national teams in 1958 during his time at Karagümrük with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team.

After his convincing performances at Karagümrük, he was nominated by the Turkish national coach Sandro Puppo in 1961 for the Turkish national team . In this first game Kutver made his international debut against Bulgaria. From then on he was one of the regularly nominated players for the next three years and was set as a national goalkeeper with a few exceptions.

He made his last international match on November 1, 1964 against the Tunisian national team . In total, he completed ten full international matches and scored one goal. He also played two games for the B national team and one U-18 international match.

death

On April 20, 2011, Kutver died in a hospital in his home province of Çanakkale . He was buried the next day after the midday prayer in the Ezine Teşvikiye Mosque in the adjoining cemetery.
