Trainer
He worked for Galatasaray Istanbul under Jupp Derwall as an assistant coach for three years . In 1987 he became the coach of Galatasaray and immediately won the Turkish championship. In the same year he became the coach of the Turkish national team. He also made history when he reached the semi-finals in the European Cup with Galatasaray. Up until then this was the greatest success of a Turkish team in European football.
In Germany he worked for Alemannia Aachen in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1989/1990 season . After a year he was again coach of Galatasaray and won the cup and made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup . Between 1992 and 1995 he worked for Kocaelispor . In 2000 he became the coach of the Turkish national team for the second time . Mustafa Denizli led the team to the quarter-finals of the European Football Championship 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands .
In the 2000/2001 season he led Fenerbahçe Istanbul as the first Turkish coach to the championship. After two years he became the coach of Vestel Manisaspor . In 2004, he was in Iran at Pas Tehran coach led the club to second place and stepped back after that. In the 2006/2007 season he was the coach of Persepolis Tehran in Iran.
On October 9, 2008 Denizli succeeded the resigned Ertuğrul Sağlam as coach of Beşiktaş Istanbul . Denizli took over the team shortly before the winter break with the 6th place in the league. Through a brilliant second half of the season, he won the double in Turkey with Beşiktaş. He is the first Turkish coach who has led Beşiktaş Istanbul to the championship and the double. He is also the only coach who has won championships with all three "big" Istanbul clubs (Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe). On December 23, 2011 it was announced that Mustafa Denizli will train Persepolis again .
For the second half of the 2012/13 season he surprisingly took over the Turkish second division club Çaykur Rizespor . With Rizespor he was runner-up in the TFF 1st Lig at the end of the season and thus rose to the Süper Lig . After this success he was unable to agree on any further cooperation with the association's board. So he left this club at the end of the season and was replaced a little later by Rıza Çalımbay .
In early December 2013, Denizli took over the Azerbaijani first division club FK Xəzər Lənkəran . On November 23, 2015, it was announced to the public that Denizli will become the head coach of Galatasaray Istanbul. His third term with the Red-Yellow ended by resignation, which the club announced in March 2016.
