1st Lig 1970/71

The 1st Lig 1971/72 was the 14th season of the top Turkish league in men's football . It began on August 21, 1971 with the game Vefa Istanbul against Mersin İdman Yurdu , which ended 1: 1 and ended on May 28, 1972. From January 9, 1972 to February 19, 1972 the season was interrupted by the winter break.

As in the previous season, Galatasaray Istanbul became champions, the team’s fifth championship.

For the first time in the history of the Turkish league , goal difference was introduced by the Turkish Football Association this season . If at least two teams are tied, the goal difference is taken into account. Another innovation was that two teams qualified for the UEFA Cup . İstanbulspor and Karşıyaka SK relegated to the 2nd division.

Attendees

To the remaining 14 clubs from the previous season , the champions of the last second division season Adanaspor and Giresunspor were promoted. For both clubs, the ascent was the first first division participation in the club's history.
