Güvenç Kurtar (born July 25, 1950 in Uşak ) is a former Turkish football player and current coach.

Player career

Kurtar began professional football in the youth of Beşiktaş Istanbul and was included in the professional squad for the 1970/71 season. In his first season for the pros, he only played one game in TSYD Kupası . In his second season he came as a supplementary player to 15 league appearances.

In the summer of 1971 he moved to the first division club Mersin İdman Yurdu and was able to assert himself here right away. He ended the season with twelve goals in 24 league matches. For the upcoming season he moved to Bursaspor within the league . Here he played regularly in the first season. In his second season, he sat on the bench and came to only eight league games.

So he left Bursaspor in the summer of 1974 and moved within the league to Altay Izmir . Here, too, he did not make it into the starting XI. But he stayed three seasons with Altay.

For the season 1977/78 he moved to the second division Kocaelispor . At this club he made his breakthrough straight away. For several years he was one of the most successful strikers in the second highest Turkish league, today's TFF 1. Lig . In the 1979/80 season he was with Kocaelispor champions of the TFF 1st Lig and rose to the Süper Lig . Kurtar was the top scorer in the 1st Lig this season and had a large share in the rise.

After he separated from Kocaelispor in the summer of 1982, he played one more season at Düzcespor and ended his active professional football career in the summer of 1983.

Coaching career

Following his playing career, he switched to coaching and was - first activity - 1990 head coach at Darıca Gençlerbirliği . He then took over the coaching position at the second division Kocaelispor . In the 1991/92 season he reached the championship of the TFF 1st Lig with this club as a coach and thus the direct promotion to the Süper Lig . In the following first division season, the 1992/93 season , he caused a sensation with Kocaelispor. His team played an outstanding first half of the season and surprisingly became autumn champions. The second half of the season was not so successful, but they finished the season in fourth place in the table and qualified for the UEFA Cup . He was in charge of Kocaelispor for half a season and left the club in the winter of 1993.

In the following years he coached a large number of first and second division teams. In the summer of 2012 he took over the second division side Adana Demirspor . A few days before the start of the second division season 2012/13 , he announced his retirement.

In 2014 he coached the Azerbaijani club Rəvan Baku FK . In January 2015 he took over the Turkish second division side Adanaspor and coached a club in Turkey again after three and a half years.
