Đorđe Milić or Djordje Milić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ђорђе Милић , Turkish Dorde Miliç , born October 27, 1943 in Belgrade ) is a former Yugoslav football player and coach. Both as a player and as a coach, he is one of the most important personalities in Beşiktaş Istanbul . As a coach, he led the club to the championship in the first division season 1981/82 and helped the club to this title again after 15 years.

Player career

society

Milić began his professional career in 1960 at FK Vojvodina Novi Sad . In his second season for this club, the 1961/62 season , he played with his club for a long time with FK Partizan Belgrade for the Yugoslav championship and finally ended the season as runner-up. In 1964 he was nominated for his convincing performance in the Yugoslav national team and made his international debut . After Vojvodina had hired Branko Stanković as the new head coach in the summer , Milić began to find fewer and fewer appearances in the team. In the 1965/66 season he was Yugoslav champions with Vojvodina, but completed only three league games in this championship season.

In the summer of 1966 Milić moved to FK Red Star Belgrade . With this club he only played one season and then moved abroad to the Dutch representative DOS Utrecht . For the Dutch, he only played five league games in two seasons.

For the 1970/71 season Milić moved to the 2nd Turkish Football League for the South Anatolian representative Adanaspor . At this club he immediately became a top performer. He finished the 1970/71 season with his team as champions. As a result, his club rose for the first time in the club's history in the highest Turkish league, in the 1st league . Milić contributed 16 goals in 25 league games to this success, making him by far the most successful goalscorer of his club and one of the most successful goalscorer of the season. After the regular season, he and his team won the Cup from the Ministry of Youth and Sports .

After his first successful season in Turkey, the big Istanbul club became interested in Milić. So Fenerbahçe Istanbul negotiated both with Milić and with his club. Then Galatasaray Istanbul intervened and also tried to engage Milić. For this purpose, the association had Milić flown to Istanbul to negotiate with him personally. At the airport, some Fenerbahçe officials kidnapped Milić with his consent and tried to prevent Galatasaray from completing the transfer. Fenerbahçe came to an early agreement with Milić and then tried to come to an agreement with his club. Since this agreement failed, Milić returned to Adanaspor and started the new season at this club. Milić played for Adanaspor for the next two years, scoring nine goals in 50 league games during that time.

In the summer of 1973 Milić moved to Beşiktaş Istanbul . For this club he played for the next two years. In his first season for the Istanbul team, he quickly fought for a regular place and established himself as a top performer. His club played for a long time with Fenerbahçe for the championship and ended the season behind them as runner-up. In the summer of 19754 Beşiktaş strengthened on the offensive with players like Sinan Alayoğlu and Tezcan Ozan . These players gradually ousted Milić from the starting line-up during the season. In addition, Milić injured himself in March 1975 and fell out of the remaining season. After these developments, Milić announced his end of career at the end of the season. He finally left Turkey in the summer of 1975. With Beşiktaş, Milić was able to win the Turkish Cup , Presidential Cup , Prime Minister's Cup and the TSYD Istanbul Cup .

National team

Milic was nominated in 1964 in the context of a friendly against the Romanian national team in the squad of the Yugoslav national team . In this game he played from the beginning and completed his first and only international match.

Coaching career

After the end of his football career, Milić returned to Yugoslavia and worked there as a sports correspondent for the Turkish daily Milliyet .

In November 1977 Milić's former club Adanaspor offered him the post of head coach. Both sides agreed to work together and so Milić began to train Adanaspor from matchday 9. In the further course of the season he formed a successful team that even began to play for the Turkish championship in phases. By losing points in the last five match days, the team moved slightly away from the top of the table, but with 4th place in the table, the best first division placement in club history to date was repeated. After the Turkish Football Association announced in April 1978 that it would not allow any foreign coaches in the league in the coming season, Milić was forced to leave the club again at the end of the season.

After these developments Milić returned to Yugoslavia and worked there again for Milliyet as a sports correspondent.

1980 Milić was traded as a possible coach at Beşiktaş Istanbul . The club opted for Metin Türel for the 1980/81 season . After this fell short of expectations, Türel was replaced by Ljubiša Spajić . Since Spajić resigned after two matchdays, Milić was again traded as a potential head coach at Beşiktaş. Finally, Beşiktaş replaced Türel with Milić in early November. Until the end of the season, Milić had no chance with his team in the league and ended the season in 5th place in the table. In his second season with Beşiktaş, the 1981/82 season , he created from young and unknown players such as Rıza Çalımbay , Ulvi Güveneroğlu , Ziya Doğan , Kadir Akbulut , Süleyman Oktay and experienced old stars such as Ali Kemal Denizci , Bora Öztürk , Necdet Ergün , Serdar Bali , Mehmet Ekşi and Samet Aybaba form a powerful team. This took over the championship lead on the first day of play and only defended it for two game days. By the 23rd matchday, Milić's team took over the table lead three more times for one or two game days, but forgave them again. From the 25th matchday onwards, Trabzonspor , which at that time dominated Turkish football with five Turkish championships in the last six seasons, was in a neck-and-neck race for the Turkish championship. On matchday 30, Milić and his team tied at Trabzonspor and took the lead because of the better goal difference. Beşiktaş defended them until the last matchday and became Turkish football champions again after 15 years. After this important success for the club, Milić was retained as coach. In his second coaching season at Beşiktaş, however, he could not live up to expectations and fell short of expectations. In the two-point rule valid at the time , his team occupied a place in the table at the end of the season with a point difference of 10 points to the respective champions. The club missed the qualification for the European cup competitions and was unsuccessful in all other national competitions. Despite this unexpectedly bad season, the club management stuck to Milić in the 1983/84 season . Milić's team started this season by winning the TSYD Istanbul Cup. His team also started successfully in the league. In the first half of the season, the club kept a small point gap to the leaders and replaced arch-rivals Galatasaray Istanbul as leaders on matchday 12 . After four matchdays, the team lost the top of the table again to Galatasaray, but ended the second half of the season two points behind Galatasaray in fourth place. In the second half of the season his team started below expectations and lost more and more connection to the top of the table. After the point gap to the first in the table after the 28th matchday had risen to seven points, the club management dismissed Beşiktaş 'Milić and then replaced him with Ziya Taner . During his coaching time at Beşiktaş, he discovered or involved players like Feyyaz Uçar , Metin Tekin , Gökhan Keskin and Rıza Çalımbay in the team. In later years these became the most important players in the club and in Turkish football.

For the 1984/85 season he took over the first division club Bursaspor and coached them for a season. In the 1985/86 season he took over FK Vojvodina Novi Sad and trained this until the end of the season. The season ended his team as bottom of the table and thus rose to the 2nd Yugoslav soccer league. In the summer of 1986 it was announced that Milić would train the Istanbul first division team Sarıyer SK in the coming season . After this collaboration did not materialize, Milić started again as a sports correspondent for Milliyet.

In the summer of 1987 he was hired as a coach at his former club Adanaspor, which now played again in the 2nd Futbol Ligi . Before the end of the season he was released and replaced by Ali Hoşfikirer .

For the 1989 season, Milić took over Adanaspor for the third time as head coach and supervised this for a season.

In January 1991 he was introduced as the new head coach at his former club Bursaspor. After he led this club at the end of the season in 6th place in the table, he remained head coach last season. In November 1991 he left this club again.
