Necdet Ergün (born May 5, 1954 in Divriği , Sivas Province ) is a former Turkish football player and coach. Through his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is strongly associated with this club. On fan and club pages he is described as one of the most important personalities in club history. In the first half of the 1980s he was one of the club's most important players. He was referred to by the trade press as Yerli Maradona (in English: native Maradona ) based on the then very popular Argentine superstar Diego Maradona .

Player career

society

Ergün was born in the central Anatolian city of Sivas and moved to the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul as a child . Here he started his club football career in the youth department of the third division club Üsküdar Anadolu SK . Here he rose to the first team in the first half of the 1970s and attracted attention a little later.

In the summer of 1975 he moved to the first division team Boluspor . Here he established himself within two seasons as one of the most noticeable youngsters in the league. He was also nominated for the squad of the Turkish national team by the Turkish national coach Metin Türel and thus moved even more into focus. This led to the fact that the four big clubs tried to get Ergüns committed. Finally the north-east Turkish club Trabzonspor managed to commit Ergün. Trabzonspor was promoted to the 1st Lig in the first half of the 1970s and surprisingly became the first Anatolian team to become Turkish champions in the 1st Lig 1975/76 season . After this championship, the club dominated Turkish football for about a decade. After this championship, the team dominated the league the next season and, in addition to the championship, also collected all other trophies in Turkish football by winning the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Supercup . Ergün was committed after this second championship. In the 1977/78 season Ergüns team delivered a head-to-head race for the Turkish championship with Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the entire season . In the end, the team was one point behind Fenerbahçe runner-up and missed the third championship in a row, but was able to win the two remaining trophies. Ergün did not play all league games this season and only had a regular place at times. After players like Ali Kemal Denizci had left the club at the end of the season , Ergün quickly found himself in the regular formation next season. At the end of the season, Trabzonspor reached the Turkish championship again and won the President's Cup for the second time in a row. Ergün contributed six goals in 29 league games to this success and was the second most successful goalscorer of his team.

Despite the last most successful season with Trabzonspor, Ergün left the Black Sea club and moved to the traditional club Beşiktaş Istanbul . Ergün established himself as a regular player and performance coach at this club. His club experienced one of its weakest performances of the season in Ergüns first season and only secured relegation in the last match days. In the second season Ergün established himself with his team in the top third of the table, but had no chance in the championship. In the 1981/82 season Ergüns team delivered with his old club Trabzonspor over the entire season a head-to-head race for the Turkish championship. In the end, the team prevailed and became Turkish football champions again after fifteen years. Ergün was one of the most important players in this success. The next two seasons Beşiktaş had no chance in the championship again. Ergün experienced his most successful time personally, but his team did not manage to catch up with the top of the table. As the only bright spot, the team won the cup final in the summer of 1984 and lost to Trabzonspor here. Since the opponent also won the championship, Beşiktaş qualified for the UEFA Cup . It was not until the 1984/85 season that the team was able to play again for the championship and retained the chance of the championship until the last day of the match. In the end, the championship was awarded to arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul with one point difference . Ergün formed here with Mirsad Kovačevič one of the most successful Strum duos in the league. In the next season, younger players like Feyyaz Uçar , Metin Tekin Ergün gradually ousted from the team. The team ended the season with the Turkish championship. Following this championship season Ergün ended his career.

National team

During his time at Boluspor Ergün was nominated by the national coach Metin Türel in the squad of the Turkish national team and made his international debut on February 16, 1977 in a game of the Balkan Cup against the Bulgarian national team . From then on he was one of the often nominated national players for seven years.

He played his last international match on April 4, 1987 against the Hungarian national team . He played a total of 14 times for the Turkish national team.

Coaching career

Ergün worked as an assistant coach at Beşiktaş Istanbul in the second half of the 200s . For the 2008/09 season Ergün took over the third division Yalovaspor .

Trivia

  • Ergün is proven to be the first player in Turkish professional football to admit a hand goal he had scored himself. In the away derby of April 29, 1984 against arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul , he scored the decisive 1-0 for his team. Immediately after the game, he commented on his goal as follows: "I put the ball to myself with my hand and scored the goal. All of Turkey saw it, only the referee didn't" (Turkish: "O maçta, topu elle aldım ve golü attım. Maçtan sonra da ?? Bütün Türkiye gördü bir tek hakem göremedi ").
