Varcians
The Varcians ( Latin Varciani ) were, according to Ptolemaios ( Geographike Hyphegesis II 15), a Celtic tribe in the upper valley of the Save in the south of the Roman province of Pannonia . Its main town is said to have been a place mentioned by the ancient authors, Varceia , but it cannot be localized. Their closest neighbors were the Latobics , who originally settled next to the Helvetians in what is now southern Baden , under Germanic pressureHowever, peoples had to move to the southeast. It has not yet been established whether the Varcians had a similar fate. During the Pannonian uprising in 6 to 9 AD, it is inscribed that Varcians were recruited by the Roman army.
