Metin Tekin (born May 8, 1964 in İzmit ) is a former Turkish football player, coach and expert. As a home grown man and through his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club and is referred to by both club and fan sites as one of the most legendary players in the club's history. He was an integral part of that Beşiktaş team with which the club in the period 1982-1995 five times the Turkish championship , including the seasons 1989/90 , 1990/91 and 1991/92 three times in a row, and so the Turkish Football dominated. With his storm partners Feyyaz Uçar and Ali giltiken , he formed the Strumtrio known as Metin-Ali-Feyyaz , which was representative of Beşiktaş's most successful era. Because of his dark blonde hair and his speed, he became famous as Sarı Fırtina ( Eng . The blonde storm ) during his playing days . He has been active on TV as a football expert since the end of the 2000s.

Player career

Tekin began his club football career in 1974 at Kocaelispor and moved to the traditional Beşiktaş Istanbul club in 1981 when he was eighteen . In the Istanbul team he was used for a season in the youth or reserve team and was added to the professional squad in the summer of 1982 by head coach Đorđe Milić . In the course of his first season in the professional team, he captured a regular place and kept this, with the exception of injuries and penalties, until 1995. In the years 1995 to 1998 he was used as a substitute player and for the second half of the 1996/97 season loaned to league rivals Vanspor . In 1998 he finally ended his career.

National team

Tekin began his national team career in 1980 with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team . After two years and eleven other appearances for the Turkish U18s, he started playing for the Turkish national team in January 1984 . Here he was nominated by the then national coach Coşkun Özarı as part of a test against the Romanian national team for the first time for the squad for the Turkish A selection and made his A international debut in this encounter. In the same year he also made his debut for the Turkish U-21 national team . After having been active for both national teams for two years, he played exclusively for the senior national team from 1985. He made a total of 34 senior internationals and scored two goals.

Coaching career

About a year after his active professional footballing career ended, Tekin began his coaching career by assisting head coach Erdoğan Arıca at some of his coaching stations as an assistant coach. For the 2003/04 season he took over the second division Altay Izmir and looked after them for about two months.

In 2005 he worked for the Turkish national team and was a member of the coaching staff of national coach Fatih Terim . With Terim's resignation in 2009, Tekin also resigned.

From 1993 to 1999 Tekin was married to actress Şevval Sam and has a son with her.
