Serdar Bali (born July 21, 1956 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and official and commentator. As a long-time player and club official, he is very strongly associated with Trabzonspor . He was involved as a player in four of the total of six Trabzonspors championships. He was also part of the Beşiktaş Istanbul team that won the Turkish championship again in the 1981/82 season after 15 years without a title .

childhood

Bali was born as the son of the professional soccer player Zekeriya Bali in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul . His father, from the northern Turkish port city of Trabzon , continued his playing career at the Istanbul club Beykozspor at the time of Bali's birth . In 1958 his father ended his career and returned to Trabzon with his family. Bali then attended the İskenderpaşa elementary school in Trabzon , the Ataturk high school and finally the Trabzon Lisesi .

Player career

society

During his time in Trabzon Lisesi , he began playing club football in the youth of Sebat Gençlik , where his father also worked as a youth coach.

In the summer of 1975, Bali moved to the first division club Trabzonspor . In his first season with this club, the 1975/76 season , he and his team surprisingly reached the championship. Up to this season, the three big Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray decided the championship of the Süper Lig among themselves. With Eskişehirspor , another Anatolian club narrowly missed the championship three times, but the ban remained. It was only solved with Trabzonspor's championship. In addition to the championship, they also reached the final of the Turkish Football Cup and just lost to Galatasaray Istanbul . Bali came in this first season as a supplementary player to seven league appearances. After this championship, the league was dominated the next season and, in addition to the championship, collected all the other trophies in Turkish football by winning the Turkish Football Cup and the Turkish Supercup . Bali played most of his team's games during this time. One also attracted attention on the European football stage. In the second round of the European Cup , the reigning English champions and later Champions League winners Liverpool FC . Liverpool were considered one of the best teams in European football at the time and were the big favorites for these encounters. Trabzonspor surprisingly won their first game in Trabzon 1-0. The second leg, in which Serdar Bali was not used, was lost 3-0. It was not until the 1977/78 season that the championship was awarded to Fenerbahçe with a point difference, but the two other trophies were won.

Trabzonspor got into big financial difficulties at this time and saw the solution in selling some stars. In addition, they wanted to create a revision in the team. Stars like Ali Kemal Denizci and Kadir Özcan left the club. Bali stayed with Trabzonspor and won two more Turkish championships with his club in the following two seasons.

In the summer of 1980, Beşiktaş Istanbul Trabzonspor offered to buy Bali for a transfer fee. Trabzonspor agreed to the change and so Bali moved to Istanbul for the 1980/81 season. In its first season, Bali only managed to gain a regular place in phases and was otherwise always switched in or out. In his second season he was only used in half of the league games. With his club, he finished the season as the Turkish champions and was part of the team that won the Turkish championship for Beşiktaş after 15 years. After he had completed only eleven league games in the 1982/83 season, he was at the league and city rivals Karagümrük SK for the 1983/84 season . After one season he returned to Beşiktaş and was almost continuously on the bench for one season.

For the 1985/86 season he returned to Trabzonspor , but was loaned to Denizlispor in the second half of his first season . He then played two seasons for Trabzonspor and ended his career in the summer of 1988. He ended his career with a farewell game in which Trabzonspor and Beşiktaş met.

National team

Bali played several times for the Turkish U-21 national team and for the Turkish national team .

After his playing career

Bali traded for a while after its playing career. In 1996 he was elected as a successor candidate in Trabzonspor's cabinet during the club presidency period of Faruk Nafız Özak . In December 2000 he was elected to Özkan Sümer's cabinet during the presidency of the club and worked as the sporting director. He continued this activity until February 2002 and resigned from his position.

Since 2007 Bali has been writing a column about the Trabzonspors Games in the daily newspaper Star . Trabzonspors is also president of the Association of Professional Soccer Players .
