The Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi 2001/02 was the 40th season of the second highest Turkish league in professional men's football. It started on August 12, 2001 with the 1st day of the game and ended on May 26, 2002 with the 38th and final day of the game.

With the 2001/02 season, Turkish professional football underwent fundamental changes. So far, professional football in Turkey has consisted of three leagues: the top division, the single-track Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi , the second-rate five-track and two-tier Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi and the third-rate, eight-track Türkiye 3. Futbol Ligi . For the 2001/02 season, professional football was expanded to four professional leagues. While the Türkiye 1. Futbol Ligi remained unchanged, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi was now in the second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category A of Turkey ), and the third highest division , the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi (to German: 2. Football League Category B of Turkey ), divided. The subordinate Türkiye 3rd Futbol Ligi was henceforth the fourth highest division, the TFF 3rd Lig .

The new second highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Aategorisi , was designed as a single-tier league with 20 teams, in which the teams in the first three places in the table rose directly to the higher 1. Lig at the end of the season and the teams in the last five Relegated places in the table in the lower 2nd Lig Bategorisi. In the newly created second league, no promoters from the former third-highest division, the 3rd Lig, were included, but only 17 teams in the upper table positions of the 2nd Lig of the previous season. There were also the three relegated teams from the 1st Lig Siirt Jetpaspor , Erzurumspor , Adanaspor . The teams that had achieved promotion in the 3rd Lig last season were included in the new third highest division, the Türkiye 2. Futbol Ligi Bategorisi.

Altay Izmir finished the season as champions and rose again to the highest Turkish league after a two-year absence. The table positions two and three occupied Elazığspor and Adanaspor and also rose directly to the 1st Lig . While Elazığspor took part for the first time in the club's history in the top division, Adanaspor managed to return directly to the 1st Lig. As relegated were at the end of the season Hatayspor , Siirt Jetpaspor , Erciyesspor , Batman Petrolspor and Aydınspor . From this season onwards, the direct comparison was used in the event of a tie .

The top scorer of the league was Yunus Altun from the west Turkish representative Konyaspor with 28 goals .
