Tanju Çolak (born November 10, 1963 in Samsun ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.
Career
Tanju first played at Samsun Yolspor , where he was top scorer in the Turkish second division in the 1983/84 and 1984/85 seasons. The following year he moved to the first division for Samsunspor . There he was the top scorer of the Turkish league twice in a row in 1985/86 and 1986/87.
In 1987 he moved to Galatasaray Istanbul , where he scored 39 league goals in his first year and was honored with the UEFA Golden Shoe . No other Turkish soccer player has achieved this before. His contribution contributed significantly to the fact that Galatasaray attracted international attention for the 1988/89 season. Thanks to Tanju's important goals against AS Monaco and Neuchâtel Xamax, the club made it to the semi-finals of the European Cup (now the Champions League ). During his time at Galatasaray, he was again top scorer in the 1990/91 season with 31 goals.
In the following season he moved to arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul , where he was the top scorer for the last time in the 1992/93 season with 27 goals. His last stop as a footballer was in the 1993/94 season İstanbulspor , where he was active for four months before ending his career. In addition to his individual successes, he was once Turkish football champion with Galatasaray Istanbul .
He played 31 games for the Turkish national team and scored nine international goals .
He is currently the second most successful goalscorer in the Turkish league (today the Süper Lig ) with 247 goals in 296 games . With an average of 0.87 goals per game, he has the best rate of all Turkish footballers. In the 1992/93 season Tanju Çolak scored 6 goals in one game (Fenerbahçe - Karşıyaka 7-1) and is thus the player with the most goals in a game.
He also maintains what is currently the third largest cattle farm in Turkey near Samsun.
