1st Lig 1995/96

The 1st Lig 1996/97 was the 39th season of the highest Turkish league in men's football . It started on August 9, 1996 with the game Trabzonspor against Altay Izmir and ended on May 25, 1997 with the 34th matchday. From December 23, 1996 to January 16, 1997 the season was interrupted by the winter break.

Turkish champion was Galatasaray Istanbul .

Attendees

For the 1st Lig 1996/97, the 15 clubs left from the previous season were joined by the three promoted teams from the last second division season . The climbers were Çanakkale Dardanelspor , Sarıyer GK and Zeytinburnuspor as the play-off winners of the 2nd Lig. While the rise for Çanakkale Dardanelspor meant the first first division participation in the club's history, Sarıyer GK returned after three years and Zeytinburnuspor managed to rise again immediately.
