Iulian Sebastian Filipescu (born March 29, 1974 in Slatina ) is a former Romanian football player . He played a total of 348 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Turkish Süper Lig , the Spanish Primera División , the Swiss Axpo Super League and the German Bundesliga . His strengths were positional play, his calmness and experience.

Career

Club career

Filipescu's career began in 1991 with Faur Bucharest before moving to Romanian top club Steaua Bucharest in 1992 . Already in his first season he became a regular player and was able to win the championship and the Romanian Cup four times in a row during his time at Steaua .

In the autumn of 1996 Filipescu left Romania and moved to the top Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul . Two further championships followed there in 1997 and 1998 . During the winter break of 1998/99 he moved to Spain to Betis Sevilla . After a midfield placement at the end of the second half of the season , the club rose to the Segunda División after the 1999/2000 season . The immediate ascent was achieved there. After that, the club took off and moved into the UEFA Cup at the end of the season . In the course of the season Filipescu had lost his regular place and was only used irregularly.

In January 2004 Filipescu left Spain after not being used in the first half of the season. He joined the Swiss club FC Zurich . On May 13, 2006, on the last matchday of the Axpo Super League against FC Basel, a few seconds before stoppage time ran out, he scored the decisive second goal for FC Zurich, which thereby won its 10th league title. It was also his first and last goal for the city of Zurich club.

On June 15, 2006, his move to Germany was announced. The MSV Duisburg obliged the central defender to 2008. In the first year the rise in the he succeeded Bundesliga . After relegation in 2008 and the expiry of his contract, he ended his career.

National team

Filipescu played a total of 52 times for the Romanian national soccer team between March 27, 1996 and 2003 and scored one goal (1999 against Cyprus ). He took part in the European Football Championships in 1996 and 2000 and in the 1998 World Cup.
