Slatina is the capital of the district of Olt in Great Wallachia in Romania . The city on the Olt River had around 78,500 inhabitants in 2007.

history

The name Slatina comes from the Slavic word Slam-tina and means something like salty land , and the term Salatina is also used in Latin . The city was first mentioned in a document in 1368 when a customs post was established there.

Industry

In the city is with the company ALRO 's largest aluminum plant of South-Eastern Europe settled. After leaving the Carpathian Mountains, the Olt River is dammed by several dams. There are two such reservoirs near Slatina, which are used to generate electricity.
