Ertuğrul Sağlam (born November 19, 1969 in Zonguldak ) is a former Turkish national soccer player and today's soccer coach.
Active career
Club career
Sağlam started with club football in the youth department of Erdemir Ereğlispor . He then moved to the youth of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . His professional career began with his move from the youth of the Istanbul club Fenerbahçe to Gaziantepspor in the 1986/87 season. In 1988 the Turkish first division team Samsunspor signed him. In the following seasons, the young striker was hugely successful and was courted by Turkey's three top clubs , namely Beşiktaş Istanbul , Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Galatasaray Istanbul . Before the 1994/95 season there was a change to the former club. In his first season with Beşiktaş, Ertuğrul was Turkish football champion , in 1998 he won the Turkish Cup with the team . In 2000 he returned to Samsunspor and ended his active career there in 2003.
National team
Sağlam made his debut for Turkey on October 27, 1993 in the World Cup qualifier against Poland. Sağlam was part of the 1996 squad of the Turkish team at the European Football Championship in England . He ended his career with the national team in 1998, by which time he had 30 games and 11 goals.
Coaching career
In 2004/05 he started his career as a coach at the then first division team Samsunspor . From 2005 to 2007 he was the sporting director at Kayserispor . He led the club from a relegation zone to a UEFA Cup place. On May 30, 2007 he was coach of his old club Beşiktaş Istanbul. On October 7, 2008, he announced his resignation at Beşiktaş Istanbul. On January 2, 2009, he signed a 3.5-year contract with the Turkish first division club Bursaspor . In his first season as a coach at Bursaspor, he won the Turkish Championship in 2010, which is also Bursaspor's first championship title in the club's history. On January 28, 2013, he announced his resignation from the coaching post in Bursa .
From the 2013/14 season, Sağlam is the coach at Eskişehirspor . Sağlam announced his retirement as Eskişehirspor coach on January 5, 2015. In the 2014/15 season he and his team had three wins, seven draws and six defeats in 16 games.
On June 7, 2015, Bursaspor announced that they had reached an agreement with Sağlam to return. Sağlam receives a three-year contract. After disappointing results, some fans called for Sağlam's resignation at the start of the season. After there was still no upward trend after 13 matchdays, Sağlam left the club after the 2-1 home defeat against Kayserispor by mutual agreement with the club management.
On June 13, 2017, Sağlam took over the club Yeni Malatyaspor , which had just been promoted to the Süper Lig , but where he dissolved his contract with the club after four games.
For the 2018/19 season he took over the Central Anatolian first division club Kayserispor for the second time in his career and looked after him until his resignation in early December 2018.
